FIFA President Gianni Infantino arrived at Punta Cana International Airport on Friday night, 21 August 2026, to attend the general assembly of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU). The event put the Punta Cana area in the forefront of high sports politics.

Upon his arrival, Infantino was received by Dominican Minister of Sports Kelvin Cruz, following the separate arrival of CONCACAF president Víctor Montagliani. The reception committee included Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) president Garibaldi Bautista, Centro Caribe Sports president Luis Mejía Oviedo, the leadership of the Dominican Football Federation (Fedofutbol), and National Football Commissioner Benny Metz.
