There are 82 Chinese business, compared to 151 of Dominicans now on Duarte Avenue, Mella and Jose Martí avenues, Diario Libre reports in its inquiry into the boom of Chinese businesses in the country. Chinese megastores have taken over shopping areas and towns and cities after the Danilo Medina administration signed relations with the Popular Republic of China in May 2018. Consumer good imports from China have soured.

Diario Libre reports that a survey conducted along iconic Duarte Avenue revealed the largest concentration of Chinese businesses: 49 establishments, compared to 25 Dominican businesses. The field survey covered the stretch between México Avenue and 27 de Febrero Avenue. Reporters also observed that in at least two vacant commercial spaces, work was already underway to prepare the locations for new Chinese businesses.
