For decades the community of Baní has been warning of lenience in vigilance of the Peravia province’s Dunas de Baní. The natural resource is a tourist attraction and heritage of the province. Over the years, it has fallen prey to persons who have irregularly taken over territory with the lenience of the authorities. A Naval base is located nearby, but this has not made a difference.

Over the weekend, Minister of Environment Miguel Ceara Hatton visited the area. Earlier, the Ministry of Environment had intervened in the area to stop the irregular activities.
