The Migration Agency (DGM) reported that 13 undocumented Haitians were arrested on Sunday, 11 September 2023 when traveling inside a Ford Explorer SUV. The arrest took place at Km 15 on the Azua province main road. The Haitians were reportedly headed to the capital city. The driver of the vehicle is identified as Dominican Kirobel Ramirez Meran.
The media has been reporting on the lucrative business involving military and civilians in complicity for the trafficking in Haitians to the Dominican Republic.
