Until the holes in the story get sorted out Jelly I wouldn't jump to conclusions. Why is there no local Publicity on this? Only the Thunder Bay paper. Ken will have something in the morning for sure.

um, I don't think I'm the only one jumping to conclusions. This story is all over the internet and was on my local (in Nova Scotia, Canada) radio station this afternoon. So whether it's sorted out or it isn't, the reaction is already happening.

I wonder if they have contacted the Spanish owners of the resort? It is a very large chain, you would think they would investigate this event?

This is a false story!! No major news agency in Canada has reported it and if the security guards were shooting at balconies, wouldnt some other tourists have heard this and reported it SOMEWHERE?...cmon now...I didnt think the DR1 community was that gullible lol

Let me see if I can word this delicately. "Bull Sh$$" , I don't believe it. They left out the part about the alcohol, weed and jungle love.
They were so afraid after they were assaulted, that they continued on with their partying for several more days at the same hotel. Then to top it off, they stayed even after a few shots were "allegedly" fired at them and insisted on staying in the lobby of the same hotel because their plane was delayed.

And next you go on to say, they were hired by the Cuban Tourist Board? :disappoin

That is a horrible experience but something just does not add up here. I think we are missing some important details that lead to all of this. Why didn't these women talk to the resort manager? Why didn't they talk to the tour company that booked the vacation? Why not call the Canadian embassy in the DR? Reporting it at home was useless. What is the RCMP going to do in Canada for something that happened in the DR. This makes little sense to me.

Genuineness ?

This assault story leaves PJT with some doubt as to its genuineness, not to say it did not happen. Tbnewswatch.com is the only news outlet making the report, as of this time. Should the assault had happened as related by the tbnewswatch.com release, why hasn't the rest of the news media jumped on a ratings making story based upon the unexampled behavior of the original assault and subsequent haunting activties of all parties involved?

The story is crying out for Sgt Joe Friday's "Just the Facts Please, Ma'am" and is maybe why other media outlets have not picked up on the story as they are looking for the facts before publishing.

Regards,

PJT

Thunder Bay is not close to where that wedding party was from by any chance? Correct, something doesn't sound right here...

Thanks for the link, dv8.

I read the recent reviews, many of which spoke of the events which are claimed to have occurred. My sense is that many may have been written by members of the group the girls who claim they were attacked were part of.

Also there were responses by the hotel to many of them.

The response to the post by the girls who claim they were attacked is quite interesting:

Dear Guest,

We are very concerned after reading your comment and we sincerely feel overwhelmed about the situation you reported. We would like to assure you that the Quality & Customer Service department always tries to investigate all the issues received from our different clients.

Concerning your comments, we would like to inform you that the event you described goes against our operation and standards of service and under any circumstance we would support such inadequate behaviour towards our customers. As per our files, we do not have any record of this serious allegation against the hotel staff and the situation that you described. Please allow us to remember you that as per our records, what we have on file is the complaint from several rooms on your villa that you were disturbing them. Because of that our security staff together with the night manager went to your room to investigate the case, you did not open the door and you were screaming in your room until the friends you called came over there. When you finally opened the door, there were just you and your friends inside the room. Please be advice that our guest security and well-being are very important to us and we carry out a great effort to make sure our guests not only remain safe but also that they feel safe as well.

We still hope to welcome you once again at Bahia Principe San Juan to experience the hospitality of our people, the quality of our services and facilities, and change any misperception you may have about us.

Best regards,

Johanny Arvelo

Hmm, I am also having second thoughts now... :cross-eye

Maybe it could be verified whether family members really called from Canada to get the police and whether PN really came to guard the women until the next morning?

Also: There allegedly were several witnesses... do they exist ....why do they not come forward?

All clear as pea soup...

If this is true then rather than inviting them back you would expect legal action against the girls, by now they could have done a lot of damage.

No, I personally don't think this can be verified.

There is certainly nothing in the hotel's response that suggests anything like this occurred. I do not believe this was left out of the hotel's response just for hotel PR reasons.

Also, there were no posts made on TripAdvisor that disputed the hotel's response. There were more posts from people who seem to have been at the hotel about the same time complaining about the hotel, but nothing that challenged the hotel's response.

Interestingly, there are some 5 star reviews from people who were at the hotel in December prior to when this incident supposedly occurred.

The fact that there was a flood of 1 star reviews about a particular period makes one wonder whether this is an organized attack on the hotel

i don't think the hotel would have come to the defense of some guy who had just put three rounds into the building, breaking the plate glass door. somebody has to pay for that

I just can't figure out why the women would post this thing on Trip Advisor if it were not true? What is in it for them except this sort of speculation.. that they were drunk and invited the guys in, etc etc?

The hotel certainly has its ENTIRE reputation at stake here as a stronghold of safety in the jungle.. of course they would deny that there was any sort of report filed.

of course, we ain't never gonna know.
