I read that Winair is coming back to SDQ with 5 weekly flights from SXM, great news, and today is also the death line for PAWA pay or continue suspended for 90 days.

I understand the concerns about using older airplanes for Caribbean travel. Having operated a fleet (s) of older planes in Canadian North then leasing several HS748 to a Barbados based airline we noticed a distinct difference in the maintenance of the craft once the lease was over.
My concern is not the age of the plane . but the ability to properly maintain the craft to Global (highest) standards. Here in the RD we are trying to compete with well established Airlines.... forget it! .... unless we can prove beyond a shadow of doubt that the maintenance program is actually an ''action plan'' instead of ''reaction to incidents of breakdown''.
The RD is no exception, it is very difficult to make a profit on a small regional carrier ; regardless of location.
I guess we'll see!

You are right, maintenance for those aircrafts is very dificult because most airlines are retiring those models, like AA and also Delta started to retired the models MD from their fleet, but in the case of PAWA the main problem is very bad administration and the money they was collecting gone to who knows pockets, they wasnt paying the suppliers and services and not returning tax collected to the goverment. They already had sales for the next 6 months of 17,000 seat.

Lets see what will happend with them.

I once flew to Havana via Cubana from Toronto and a guys seat fell into the aisle upon take off.
They just gave him another seat, strapped the loose seat down and went on our merry way.
Not sure of the plane model.
Air Canada had some Maintenance issues when fueling a 767 in North Ontario. It glided into Gimli at an abandoned air strip.
Another Airbus was on its way to Lisbon vis Azores and had to glide in from 35000 feet. All Man made issues!!!
I do not fly Air Canada.
The DC9 had tail cone issues upon landing. A friend of mine was passenger on a DC9 in Argentina back in late 80's it vaporized upon take off...Maintenance or lack there-of.
If you loose an engine on the smaller regional planes the second engine will take you to the scene of the accident.

Maintenance People Maintenance.... the rest is a turkey shoot. We do not have to fly PAWA ; if others do, that's their choice.
Light a candle for them.

Didn’t pay landing fees, fuel fees, hangers fees... an old poster about 5yrs ago said it best.. A Dominican airline will never make it in DR they don’t like paying there landing airport fuel fees (Colon)
