No thanks. I've already seen one condom float by me while at Playa Sosua.

(and I'm assuming it wasn't a new one)

Indeed!

So there is this piece of land along Sosua Beach that Lifestyles resorts wants to develop with their style of AI resorts and they need Sosua cleaned up to do that.

Also the local hotel owners paid off the government to close the bars earlier so everyone would have to go back to the hotels to drink and select their nightly rentals. It has the benefit of putting that process behind more or less closed doors.

And that's exactly what they want you to do, look at other places and go there for sex.

They view themselves as a catholic nation and the money side of it doesn't really come into play.

Meanwhile most men partaking in prostitution of the DR are........

I really don't see how closing the bars early is the solution. These tourists won't be going back to their hotels - they won't be coming here at all. How many tourists want to go on vacation to a place that rolls up their side walks at midnight during the week and at 2am on weekends? This seems like a short sighted, knee-jerk solution to me. If they stick to this "plan", and it doesn't sound to me like they really have a plan, more businesses will be closing. Granted, they will be getting rid of a lot of tourists they don't want in the first place, but the approach they are taking is like spraying a garden full of weeds with Roundup

Blue Collar Town in New Jersey
What I have not seen even seen discussed at any length is that the "night life" in Sosua, does not even start until like 11 Pm, and even later on weekends, or at least that used to be the case.
Closing at Midnight is just ridiculous. This is more of a Curfew or Punishment than a Legit closing time for any business that makes its living mostly as a Bar./Restaurant.

I was not even thinking about the Hotel Bars, that is rather interesting if they are completely exempt.

While the bars may not be "rocking" until later in the evening, the "ladies" are trolling Pedro all hours of the day, I even had one approach me as I stood at the closed Checkpoint at 7 A.M. while I stood there waiting to rendezvous with friends to go out fishing. What they will soon realize is that even though the bars will close earlier, if thats the way its going to stay, is that the word will eventually get around, and they will just get busier earlier, and "conducting business" with the ladies will be done within the new times. It won't go away, it will just be a shift, then they will wonder what to do next?

ADSS is behind the closings, according to Sosua News

In the article in Sos?a-News about early closing times in Sos?a we wrote it was the authority of the president. In reality it is mainly the board of ADSS (Association for Sustainable Development of Sos?a), which is the driving force behind this measure and they have asked the government for years to undertake fierce action against prostitution and drug crime. For the past few months there have been many meetings between the board of ADSS with the Public Ministry, the Ministry of

the Interior and Police, the Ministry of Tourism, the Mayor of Sos?a, Tourist Police (CESTUR), National Police and the Traffic Police ( AMET). Noteworthy is that the early closing times do not apply to Cabarete. With these early closing times and closing the Rumba Bar and Disco D' Classico the aim is to combat prostitution and drug-related crime. According ADSS Sos?a will be much more attractive to families and retirees.

The conspiracy theories I have heard so far are are 1 and 2, 3 has been in the news:

1) It was the Hotels who paid to have the bars close early so the Hotels somehow benefit by clients drinking at the Hotel bars (makes little sense to me ).

2) Lifestyles Resorts wants Sosua cleaned up so they can build AI TimeShares on Sosua beach (actually makes some sense).

3) Not a conspiracy theory - Think about it now, reality might just be that the local government wants to clean out the prostitution, the best it can, as was described in Sosua news, and the main government in Santo Domingo also wants the same thing, which the Attorney General of the DR has been stating for years. .

The governments have stated countless times that they do not want sex tourists.

It has always appeared to me that nothing is done by the government without some kind of a monetary angle to it. However, it is what it is. They are intent on running tourists out of Sosua...sex tourists or not.

I feel bad as there will be tough years coming for the little people of the area. Even if they ate able to lure families into the area, it won't be for a few years. They have to bring those flight prices down in POP for a start.

They keep talking about drugs....I know very few tourists that are involved with drugs in Sosua.

And I as well don't personally know any Gringos involved in drugs, can't really say if its truly a concern, or if they are trying to stay statistically, as a whole, drug use is on the rise in conjunction with the prostitution nationwide and they want to "nip it in the bud"?

But that is not going to go away....it's still there. Unless they can eliminate prostitution all together.

I wonder how long it will be before all of this moves to Caberete?

Noteworthy are the Ministry of Tourism signs of closure in the pictures in the article. That when added to the fact that the Deputy Minister of Tourism was reported present at the closures suggests this is a central government initiative.

May I speculate that these measures alone will not tackle the prostitution sufficiently as the tourist and other bodies seek. Their mode of operation will simply adjust or they will relocate nearby. The only thing that will significantly reduce prostitution is tacking the reason why they flock to Sosua......diminish the numbers of those that seek their services. Now that is an all together a more difficult puzzle to solve.

Dominicans and Catholicism, it is more of a joke than anything else, with all their drinking, corruption and infidelity (mistresses and cabanas), unmarried couples, physical and sexual abuse of women (from police stations to just about any workplace), sexual abuse of underage girls (every 12 year old here has a story with a so called "tio"), and the way men get the girls pregnant and disappear. You could say they fit right into a "Catholic" country category... !?

I think when you talk about DR, Catholic country is the last thing that comes to mind - of course they can pretend whatever they want in their mind.

It is almost funny how they react to this Sosua phenomena, like the rest of the country is Saudi Arabia... ! lol

Sure, a few may drift that direction. But I don't think they will duplicate Pedro Clisante there.

I always thought the big drift could be towards Montellano. That place is ripe for a takeover. All it would take is for one bar to become a hot spot for chicas and gringos and the place would explode. A lot of the girls coming to Sosua are from Montellano and POP anyways.

And being that Montellano has zero tourism, it might be allowed to exist for awhile. Again, out of sight out of mind mentality.

No prostitute can enter a bar alone in Cabarete

But that is not going to go away....it's still there. Unless they can eliminate prostitution all together.

Here is that answer: No prostitute can enter a bar in Cabarete alone (without a man).
