Sounds like pretty straight forward jazz to me? What jazz style, if any does the wife like Windy?

Actually none.

As an aside on Jazz. A jazz guitarist from NY City that played for many years as the house guitarist at the Blue Note in New York City has a house in my development. He would NOT consider what was played in that clip to be jazz. He would call it noise.

Merengue Tipico! :rolleyes::glasses::bunny:

100% spot on.

Cabarete
I was going to say that the music in the video sounds like jazz to me, as did what I heard at the first night when it moved to Cabarete. But then I realised I would be following the thread miles off topic.

I tried the jazz festival here once.

I felt like the kid who shouts 'the king has no clothes' as lots of others claimed it was music and berated me for not rejoicing in it.

I was once a musician and went to lots of jazz clubs (not playing, listening mostly),but for me it was not listenable..
I honestly can't imagine the Latin culture appreciating it.
(But they love that squeeze-box stuff so who knows?)

This year I passed on it..

Jazz is an acquired taste. Certain styles are not for everyone. I am surprised that people think this type of music would go over well in the DR but it looked like the people in attendance enjoyed it. I always wondered why Sosua beach was not more active at night. It would be a great venue for live music and such.

Maybe an opera singer would pack em in. After all Sosua has been transformed.

A good question that I have wondered about for years. One reason that live music, aside from some simplified Karoake assisted version, is tough at Sosua beach is a lack of easy access to carry gear in and out. The driving reason is of course, money.

I don't think there enough people around to make it worthwhile to stay open at night. During the best of times, I was playing 4 nights a week. These days I play a gig a week, maybe two, during peak season with a trio. (Cabarete is a shell of what it used to be when I moved here, not to go too far off topic, but it is a north coast general problem)

From what I could hear on a second video on Facebook, it might be 7 businesses that were raided and closed.

Why anyone would invest in a business in sosua is beyond me... between the graft and lawlessness in that town, the place sucks. hotels and other businesses will be affected. Be prepared for an increase in crime... lots of jobs will be lost.

I wonder why these closures seem to most often occur at night? What's wrong with shutting a place down in the afternoon, less drama I would think.

I suspect last night was the removal operation of bar/discos that City Hall threatened would happen months ago. Last night was the night it took place (an action that has been considered for years) .

Is that correct?

Were these places were "removed as promised" and will not be allowed to re-open as bars or discos any longer on that small strip of Pedro Clisante?

Anybody buying or putting money into a business on Pedro Clisante at the moment is a fool. I am so glad I sold everything a few years ago. Although I want to start something up again, I will wait until this passes and Neuman is gone for good.
