Ok short version translation:

you can not seal off the AIs tourists to preven the virus spread because for every tourist there is a dominican working in the AI who will be infected too. And those dominicans live Outside the AI in Bavaro pueblo and will infect the rest of the country
well, at least you gave it the ole college try

Funny, I see these sunrise posts on Everything febu, but the irony is you cant see from these pics how polluted and smelly Cab bay really is
Well, lot of fresh air, live coral reefs and big turtles swimming around. Went fishing outside Encuentro one day, we feeded a big family with that catch.

I know you have posted that you do not like almost nothing Everything, hate surf dudes and kiters.

But do not follow up that subject on this thread about when international travel starts up again. Start a new thread.

Wish you a great day

actually yes if you instead listening to first responders and any doctors start listing to the guy who is the expert for corona viruses stuying them for years and beside of science running a actual lab too and the guy beeing the one who developed the first test for this virus in the world:

he explained the low rate of infection in some housholds that there is more and more evidence that there is Only a very short periode before the first symptoms when the virus is massively spread. If for example the spreadee has been out for work during that 8 hours or not had close contact during that time he can not infect others in the house. It seems to be a false assumption that a person is highly infectios many days - maybe infectious but highly contagious only a shorter time frame. If that person was in a bar ot church in that highly infectious timeframe there can be 100+ infections.

this Corona viurs specialist ranted that there are 1000 doctors out there with no cornona virus experience giving the most ridiculous opinions just because they are doctors. He would not give advice about any other virus less about bacteria. But there is too many experts out there with no qualifications in the field giving opinions.

basically your first responders arehoping they will not meet mr. superspreader that day. Its like playing lottery.
Hide of hard to figure out who that superspreader is until after the fact, based on what you just wrote.

Yes

you can have many contacts without problems till you meet the wrong guy at the wrong time - and maybe then your mask will not be enough unless its a good one and maybe 6 feet is not enough either.

And dont kiss infected people even in their less infectious days - it still enough to catch if you do that...

Hi all, my first post. I'm a commercial pilot. Here's some information I've gathered and I hope it helps!

- According to the NOTAM's (Notice to Airman) all airports are closed until May 31st at 11:59pm. Cargo and government flights are excluded. Unless an updated NOTAM is posted Dominican airspace will be open at midnight June 1st. Here's the link and it is updated daily https://aip.idac.gob.do/Datos/Aviso_NOTAM/AvisoNotamVigente.pdf

- I have a confirmed ticket on JetBlue from Ft Lauderdale to Santo Domingo for JUNE 1st, 2020. It's not a typo JUNE 1st. As of today, when I called Jetblue, I was told the flight is still good to go. If it goes I have no idea what will happen when I get there but I saw online they will let flight crews into the country so I'm hopeful my pilot credentials will get me through immigration.

- I have some friends that work inside the Puerto Plata airport and they said they are expecting flights on June 4th. If you check on www.aa.com they are selling flights from Miami to Puerto Plata starting on June 4th and everyday there after!

- Now, if you go to this website, which is the official tourist website for the DR it says borders will open on June 2nd. https://www.godominicanrepublic.com/newsroom/coronavirus/

I hope this summary helps in some way. I just read the President asked for another 25 days of emergency powers. So, who knows if that will affect anything but I am doing my very best to be on the first plane down. If/when I land I will update this post to let you all know I made it.

Safe travels!

Joel
Good Morning all, UPDATE: I just checked www.aa.com and the flights that were starting on June 4th into Puerto Plata have now been removed until July 7th. The JetBlue flight I have booked into Santo Domingo June 1st is still confirmed but that could change anytime, will keep you updated.

A question for you all in DR. I read this morning that the President has asked for another 25 days of emergency power and the senate has confirmed. However, the Chamber has vowed not to approve the extension. So, if an agreement for the extension is not reached. What happens? General thoughts on this as a whole?

We have flights booked on American Airlines for June 6th. I just spoke to one of their reps & she says it's still scheduled to fly. However, based on the fact that airports supposedly won't be open til July 1, I'm highly doubtful this will go. worse part is, we probably won't know until a day or two ahead & of course it's hard buying food not knowing if you're staying 2 weeks or 6 weeks. I can pack pretty fast.
I have a ticket on American for the same day and the rep told me the same thing. we’re just going to have to wait and see what happens .

The government has already said airports won't open until July 5th - at the earliest. Anything is possible, but the odds of that changing to an earlier date are about as close to zero as you can get.

the theory that (social distancing) is saving the world as portrayed by the media is poppycock
I've never heard that theory. However, I have heard that social distancing reduces the number of cases and so has helped hospitals all over the world to cope.

I have no crystal ball...

-Borders will not open until the resorts are ready to accept tourists, therefore, those intending to reopen need to clean, do maintenance and restock. This could take awhile. Most resorts will qualify as a large business needing more employees to get ready than are allowed to resume operations during phase 1.

-Borders and foreigner entry are covered under different legislation than the constitution upon which a S.O.E. declaration is required to override those provisions (ie not a constitutional right except for citizens it looks like).

-The borders could be one of the last items to reopen. Gatherings of groups of people are still being actively discouraged. Resort bars & restaurants are not particularly conducive for physical distancing nor is the a la carte menu option for the vast majority of diners on any given night - buffets fed more people each day than all the a la carte restaurants combined. Big changes will likely be needed and many of the past feeding options will need to be overhauled.

-Travelers will not travel so long as there are quarantine measures in effect upon their return home - no employer is going to allow newly returned employees to be off for an extra 7 - 14 days.

-I anticipate that by the time the DR gets to the point when reopening the borders is scheduled to come up for consideration, the infection numbers will be too high to proceed.

-Tourist travel to the DR is at the moment an unrealistic expectation (imo) and those who keep rescheduling flights or are basing their decisions on automated flight schedule reservations are wasting their time and in some cases their money by hedging their bets.

I find it incredible that we are still discussing this after some 2000+ posts. Only the Govt knows what it will eventually do and when. Until then, watch the infection numbers. As the number of active cases increases and the rate of that increase speeds up, the less likely it will be that the borders will be opened for all but essential travel and citizen repatriation. If I had to guess, maybe in the Fall.

Ready for open you must be crazy.... if this virus hits bad it will wipe out half the island....they are not prepared...this article tells you that..
Or 0.5% of those infected will die which seems much closer to the real world numbers of infection rate deaths. 0.5% is not really very close to 50%.

People will only stay sequestered for so long.

Joel , thank you for the post from your perspective. I do wonder how the airports will be open in June when the government published a schedule that they will open on July 1 at the earliest. And independently from that , a spokesman for Aerodom indicated that POP airport might not open until late 2020 or early 2021 for regular passenger traffic, since it will not be profitable to do so until enough airlines are actually willing to fly there. It is certainly confusing information, at best.

Good morning, I completely agree. At this point in time it's like reading tea leaf's and it would seem each agency or department is saying different things.

More confusing information, Punta Cana says July 1st

Stop chasing media headlines and completely ignore social media. This is the DR. Here, the left hand never knows what the right hand is doing and the media gets it wrong more than they get it right.

the theory that (social distancing) is saving the world as portrayed by the media is poppycock
The Same media which believed in the beginning, ( not even sure where they came up with the complete BS story as they obviously did ZERO Fact Checking ) , and even some of us , including myself ,even fell for it for a short time ? that this Virus came directly from a BAT , to a Human in a couple weeks ..
Doing Minimal research we find out this is Mathematically impossible .. that it came from a LAB... which lab , we have no proof yet, but 100% it did not spread from Bat to Human in such a short time ..
but if you post anything like this , too soon ,before the masses have had time to digest the slop they consume from the MSM, and rest their brains .. you are called a " Conspiracy , Tin Foil Hat Nut"..
Extremely credible Virologists , people who have devoted their Lives to their field of Expertise, are being krapped on by Know it all CNN watchers ( u can include Fox too , if you like)
and if you try to " break off a slice of Knowledge" ( Gorgon Copyright) ... for actually doing the reading and a little research for them ,, their Brains cant handle it .
and its now offensive to them. How dare you try to share what you have learned from CREDIBLE SOURCES. ( ie NOT the media)

This is true for most European countries. If you keep the Residence there and continue to pay the taxes you continue to receive all benefits. They dont generally check if you really are still living there as long as you pay and wont really care if you are DR resident too. However most people do the oposite trick, trying to not be resident anywhere. With the exception of US citizens the tax depends on you residency and if you like to pay twice tax you can have two residencies...question is if that clever and depends on your income ... no income no tax
i have officially registered residencies in Germany and DR.
there is zero tax-wise negative to keep both.
as a German I have to pay Taxes at the country where I produce/earn the money.
in my case that is the DR, so my taxes are paid here in DR, where i anyways live full time since ever.
yesGermany is entitled to taxes on any income produced in Germany.
I get every year my German Tax-Paper send to my German address.
I fill it out with no income shown, as i don't produce any money in Germany, all is fine, no harm done, no extra tax money paid.
ifi would cometo germany for a lengthy time frame, I would let ém know my presence and be coveredfor that time under insurance and other benefits.
I never used any of those social scurity benefits, as i am the ole fshioned kind who does not use the community's resources when not needed.
so whe i visit with my daughter for our 7 weeks summer rbeaks, i just take our travel insurance for med for around1 Euro per day, which proofed over the year to be a great one to work with, and stay there at the own house as a Vacationer, not a Citizen.
it fits my vacay laziness, no forms to fill in no nothing, just buy the ticket, hop on a plane and enjoy the stay.
