Once again you are focused on CASES, not deaths. I don't deny people are getting the virus but most, and all that I know are either unaffected or minimal effects. As I have previously posted I have been asking 2-4 Dominicans per day for the last few months how many people that they PERSONALLY know have died from the virus and thus far a grand total of 3 people have said that they personally knew someone. One an 80+ year old uncle with diabetes and one other, a girl working at Altese en Sosua claimed to know 5 which I find very suspect since 99.9% know no one. I told her co - worker that she should not work with her because she was bad luck.
At the car wash, the very nice lady told me of an elderly man who fell in the shower, had a blood clot and after a week plus in the hospital sadly passed away, cause of death COVID.

Gary, I think JD was agreeing with you.

so I could be scared and not want to "understand that"
Why would I not want to understand that?

It's obviously sad when a loved one dies regardless of the cause HOWEVER shutting down the country is doing MUCH more harm to the population than the virus.

Seems like get the vaccine asap is at top of the agenda so we have less illness.
You have some other idea?
Do you want to unshutdown the country? That alone is doomed to fail.

Doomed to fail? and why is that? Thank God for that so many receive monies from family overseas because if not starvation might become the number one cause of death in the country, ok maybe a tad over dramatic but things would jump up in desperation very quickly.
No vaccine for me thanks.

The J&J vaccine may work well with only one dose and just needs normal refrigeration since it is based upon traditional vaccine creation methods.
PICHARDO might even like it:

Johnson and Johnson vaccine produced strong immune response, early results say

Early results from a Phase 1/2a clinical trial shows it was well tolerated and even one dose appeared to produce a strong immune response in almost all of the 800 participants.

The media calls it a potential game changer in the fight against CV19... Will the DR use it? No special refrigeration needed and one dose make it a strong contender. PICHARDO might even like it. 100 million doses are in the queue awaiting approval after they announce stage 3 results.

Interesting that the "very nice lady" saw the death certificate.

We know the stats to the point of boredom about death percentage.

Those are the stats but the numbers are staggering.
Estimated around two million deaths .

That takes a whole lot of doctors lying for some reason on deaths certificates so there are more deaths for some reason. Maybe it is not two million but with lying is only one million nine hundred thousand?

It's not just deaths. Even if it was that's still far to many people to just accept and let die. But it's not. Many people have lingering and debilitating issues post covid that not only make their lives hell but further tie up already taxed hospitals and medical systems.

How cynical and coldblooded does one have to be to not care about all the deaths and others left suffering after covid?

LOL!! go ahead and open everything back up, when you have so many people infected at the same time, the hospitals overwhelmed and people dying on the streets and people unable to go to work due to sickness that harms the ecconomy. If 1% die that's 100,000 dead in the RD is that acceptable to you? If the hospitals are overwhelmed and unable to treat any more people the fatality rate would probably be be higher. When are people going to wake up that doing nothing just does not work.
lol.." people dying on the streets" , where is it that you reside, I want to avoid that province

Think it is going to take a while before its anywhere near your arm.
We have outstanding choices now.

Imagine you wait and get sick,?
Really sick and you end up with new health issues long term.
Infections are soaring.

Wait and see could be wait and sick.
Who knows, maybe you will not get really really ill, like hospitalized.

I admit to being a bit of a gambler but only with money.

Thankfully most governments act and close things down before it reaches that stage. Rationing healthcare due to the system being overwhelmed has happened in Italy and is underway in California, These are areas with much better health facilities than RD and still unable to cope

I have no choice on vaccines unless I want to get on an airplane. Which I don't.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine might be the best yet for the DR (if you aren't already on board with Sputnik V)...

No vaccine for me thanks.
Its been tried.
Just opening up business with out methods to stop the spread of virus does not work.
Case numbers go through the roof.
Sweden tried it and failed miserably.

Refusing the vaccine is a very generous decision so that one more person who wants the vaccine will take your place in line.
Thanks is not needed?
Anyone offer you the vaccine ?

helping each other is a good thing.
Dominicans have a good reputation for helping .

Our watchman from the school is currently in the hospital (private clinic) in La Vega with Coronavirus. He is on Oxygen plus meds, 69 year old. Ironically he got the infection while at the hospital for another condition. His wife also has it but she is much younger and has very mild symptoms. He is not overweight and has a strong heart so hopefully he will survive.
