The day this government starts treating us gringos like they treat the Haitians, I will move. Last time I checked my US Dollars weren't causing to many problems. As a matter of fact they seem to enjoy having my money around as often as possible.

I would not worry too much. Has been the same for 3 Decades and unlikely to change anytime soon...............

Somebody ask the fancy attorney if anyone has ever retained him because they were being deported under Article 123-3 of Law 285-05 for solely overstaying. If he says yes, then I will no longer post anything in this thread.
If he says no, then my point stands.

Power without control is useless
A law without enforcement is also.

Even a fancy attorney knows there is the spirit and the letter of any law. Now I'm not an attorney. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. LOL!

This is EXACTLY the point for the 10 years on this board of total BS related to deportation SOLELY for overstaying. No lawyer or anyone else can document ONE case of this...............................

I don't remember ever seeing a thread that goes back and forth over the same boring arguments so many times. Remind me not to look at this thread again.
Remember to never look at this thread again.

Lawyers that quote the laws are just trying to get your business to be a legal resident. There is no need to do this.

People from tourist card countries get special treatment. They can come and stay forever and ever and the government does not care how long they remain as illegal aliens in the DR. Those people are treated exactly the same while in the DR as legal residents with respect to being able to drive despite having invalid licenses after 90 days, they get insurances that always covers them in an accident or for health issues, and many more things that are identical to legal residents. You can even find a bank that will let you open accounts after 30 days in the country. So why ever bother to be anything but an illegal alien if you are from a tourist card country?

So after ten years you finally figured it out. Maybe now you will stop whining about it. It is what it is..................

Nope, What I posted above was simply irony. It's a lot longer than 10 years, isn't it? Remember many thousands of my posts were accidentally deleted.

Good morning. I have been reading posts on this forum for years but have only joined recently and have never posted before. In spite of the "beating a dead horse" aspect of all these threads about overstaying, I thought maybe I should mention that they have actually benefited me because the back and forth helped me to understand what the situation actually is. Also, I know that if there is ever an actual change in how things work, I will hear about it hear first. I have gotten a better understand of things listening to you all then I got by talking to a lawyer.

It is good to know that people realize they can get away with being an illegal alien with no ramifications as long as you stay in the DR.

Does it really bother you that people on this board enjoy coming, staying at long as they want and returning to this paradise? You would like to see them in a lock up waiting for a return flight. This would make you happy. PATHETIC..,

Would that make me happy? No. Enforcing the laws would simply be the right thing to do.

I really want a simple 6 month snowbird visa that is enforced. That would make me "happy".

The purpose of immigration laws are to further the interests of the state.
I am not a member of the Dominican Government, but it just might be that they are enforcing the laws in such a way in order to benefit the interests of the state.
The benefits to the state have been pointed out in numerous posts.
If anyone can point out to me how the current enforcement of the immigration laws are not furthering the interests of the state, I'm ready to read their post about it.

Enforcing laws just to be doing it strikes me as unintelligent.
There are financial ramifications.
Look at the financial means of the different immigrants to Dominican Republic.
It just might be that treating them differently is actually in the interests of the Dominican Republic.

Or there are just too few tourist card entering illegal aliens to make any impact of significance. That is what I am going with.

The number of such people that stay illegally is an insignificant revenue stream compared to AI tourism and cruise ships.
My best guess is that the government just doesn't care at all, hence the status quo.

Well then look at all of this agreement.
You both have made my point.
That decisions could be based either on revenue streams or lack of impact.
In other words, the Dominican Republic is enforcing immigration laws to the benefit of the state.
It is time to celebrate!
