I saw this today on Instagram. So, is he dumping his father’s surname and adopting his mother’s/grandfather’s now? Will he actually be eligible to run in 2028, has he rejected his American citizenship and moved to DR to satisfy the 10 year requirement?

Trujillo has always been his maiden name.

What has been said regarding his innegibility for this past presidential elections isn’t that he was legible but the JCE intentionally delayed his registration process. He wss sent to some court. Then once the date for his trial came, the court’s decision was that it couldn’t do anything without one more document that he needed (but was never told). The time frane to get the new document exceeded to allowed cut off point to declare renning in the elections. As expected, when the date for reviewing the new document came, the response that he got was that the limit date for presenting credentials to run in the elections had expired, hence he was out-of-time to run in this past election.

Except, this wasn’t due to him, but rather the intentional run around to make him innelegible for this presidential race.

I say actions such as these if happen over and over again will naturally create resentments in him towards the group of people preventing him to run for president. Eventually, you try something enough times and you will get it. I think it’s better to have a Ramfis run for presidency and win with mo resentments in the way than run for president and win witn new resentments created.

What happens if resentments are created and then you reach power? The temptation for revenge is there and the revenge doesn’t have to be the ultimate violence. Things like making things more difficult for the people that created stumbling blocks in his quest to run for the presidency would satisfy the need for revenge, especially since sokner or later everyone needs to deal with the government for something.

Well, he has never been president. How can someone be “not same from the past?”

Perhaps a person that was born and grew up in American democracy and capitalism with strong belief in things such as the bill of rights isn’t desirable, at least no more than someone has was born and grew up in the DR with its imperfect democracy, corruption, favoridm and widespread nepotism not to mention rampant classicism where people’s last name means more than their merit and often times opens or closes doors.

Everybody knows the USA is a lesser country than the DR. Just look at migration flows and all the Americans ying in yola trips to reach the DR, the promise land. After all, Americans have Santo Domingo as the greatest thing ever, most people dreaming to go there.

Oh wait…

Ramfis is not allowed to run for president because, per Dominican law, he has to reject his American citizenship at least 10 years prior to running. Dual citizens can't run for president.

I respect your opinion, but then why the machination on his part?
I've always wondered the same the thing - even four years ago it seemed clear to me he wasn't eligible to run. I remember seeing an article not too long ago that quoted the law as the reason the JCE rejected his application to run for president. I think Ramfis was trying to claim it was unconstitutional(?).

P.S., I just found it: https://www.diariolibre.com/actuali...-otra-vez-candidatura-ramfis-trujillo/2517920

Money. Political parties receive money from the state. There can't be any other reason. Even if he could legally run, he has zero chance of winning anything.

Supposedly, the issue now is that he renounced his American citizenship and would qualify to run, but in the last election the JCE at al purposely gave him the run around until the time to submit all the documents was expired and then they basically put the blame on him for not submitting the documents on time. It seems that now they can’t use the “renounce the second citizenship at least since 10 years before running for president” they are stalling his participation through other ways.

a handsome lad, how old might he be?
Well, he never met his grandfather as their lives never coincided, so he must be less than 63 years at the very least.

As we all know, descendants are responsible for everything their grandparents did even if they never met them.

Several Dominican lawyers told him that the law didn’t apply to him because the reason he was born outside the DR is different from other Dominicans born abroad. His mother was expelled and there were laws that prohibited her from returning to the DR. They did went back to the DR for very short stays I think on 2 occasions and only because Dr Joaquín Balaguer gave them permission to be in the DR for X days (in one of those trips they were invited to the National Palace to meet the then president Dr Joaquín Balaguer, another sign they aren’t just any Dominicans since most Dominicans are never invited to the National Palace nor any Dominican president is eager to meet them.) All the kids she was going to have had to be born outside the DR not by her choice, but by the choice of Dominican laws. Hence, he was born with US citizenship for being born in New York City, but regardless where he was going to be born he would be given the citizenship of that place since Dominican citizenship couldn’t be granted to them as prohibited by law. So if he was born in a country where citizenship is granted by law, he would get the citizenship of the country he was born in because his unique situation would qualify him to get it jus solis.

He and a good chunk of his extended family began to return and establish themselves in the DR after I think 2002 when Hipólito Mejía removed the prohibition for the Trujillo’s to live in the DR. So technically, only after 2002 could a Trujillo be born in the DR, something that wasn’t possible since the 1960’s.

He probably would had not been applied the law given his unique situation, but since he is the grandson of Trujillo and the DR still has members of families that were directly affected during the dictatorship essentially controlling the country, things were as they were.

OK so let's assume that he is legal to become prez. What qualifications does he have besides a last name?
. He graduated from business administration and comparative and international instructions at the University of Miami, and from there he devoted himself entirely to business, organizing his first company at the age of 21. In 1994, he was recognized by "America's Who's Who" as one of the most outstanding young entrepreneurs in the United States.[

I think that was always one of his arguments(?). Are you sure he renounced his US citizenship?
