I would suggest you take advantage and purchase some $US to bring down with you. In my vast experience, I have never seen the rates in a cambio in the DR be adjusted accordingly when the loonie and USD have reached parity.

Thanks. I have already done so this week while the dollar is pretty close to par. Got $500 US for $515 CAN with the bank's fees added in there.... Not too bad.

I am sorry, but that must have been RD$36.04, NOT 37. If it was 37 you should have exchanged a million and brought it to Santiago where Marco Cambio would sell you dollars ar RD$36.65 all day long...

It was indeed 37.04. My BOFI ATM card imputes a transaction fee where there is none and refunds it to me. They refund up to $8 of such "fees" per month. In essence I get paid $8 each month not to stand in line inside the bank.

But the exchange rate will settle down to the normal rate after the $8 is paid and that is usually by the third withdrawal in a given month. No way to make my millions in arbitrage, but it is the best ATM card I have found.

Can we stick to posting actual exchange rates of HARD currency here please, not fantasy internet rates? I understand you think you are really getting RD37.04/USD...but most folks are more interested in the actual tasa paid at a local cambio.

I always post exactly what I receive for the exchange rate when I use my ATM card and I say this in my post. I have no reason to do otherwise. I explained how the imputed charge was used to my benefit.

The Forex rate today posted at Caribe Express was $RD 36.25 for the US dollar.

Cool!

WOW....you got $37.04/USD, how far can we ammortize the $8 over, 100K or 250K USD for that rate? I will exchange 1M USD with you for that rate, what is your SWIFT number?

Please add a little something in the spread for yourself, I'll even take 36.75/USD on a yard.

Why are you posting the rate @ Caribe Express all of a sudden? Is $37.04 only good on your one or two $100 ATM transaction, could it be it becomes like $36.04 after 10 transactions? Puhlease Windguy you can not get $37.04 on moe than one or two transactions/month with the $8 gift.

You are a nice enough guy and post valuable info here but $37.04, I think not.

OK for those of us not sophisticated enough to use an ATM, of which I am one, yesterday for cold cash I got 36.38 in Cabarete at the bank.

that's the same we have over here on the East, too.
yesterday 36.30 at the Banca Barrican in El Cortecito.

as an own experience example for ATM's, i always take the rest of my CC's limit every month from an ATM in sweeps of 10.000.- each transaction.

last week i received as an exchange rate on that the following:
* taken per sweep: RD$ 10.000.- Pesos
* i used a international Master Card Credit Card
* i got taken for that on my German Euros Bank account per sweep:
** 207.11.- Euros
** shown exchange rate 48.28352 pesos per euro
** plus plus Foreign Country Cash taking Fee of 5.18 Euros
the exchange rate at the same Bank for transactions between Euros and US$ been at the same Day US$ 1.3563.- per Euro.
yes, the Euro is late very weak compared to the US$, not so long ago those transactions been nicely in my favor due a strong Euro.
so in reality i received per US$ only 33.1683 Pesos.
but keep in mind that i did not pay US$, it is the weak Euro which let's the exchange show little.
what i received for my Euros been more than a Banca would give me for cash Euros to exchange, and i do not need to pay additional money wire fees to send the money from my german account down here, no waiting for the transaction to arrive on my dominican account, no need to stay in line on the bank to withdraw the cash here on the bank and then bring it to a banca and exchange it in Pesos.
just a few minutes at a ATM to do 5 sweeps of 10.000.- Pesos each.
it would be much cheaper if the limit per transaction here at the ATM's would not be the low 10K per transaction, would save me 5.18.- Euros each 10.000.- Pesos.
are they all limited to the same or do you guys know about ATM's with higher limits per sweep?

Mike, I am able to sweep almost any amount I choose at Banco Santa Cruz. (I have gone as high as 25,000, but I assume I could go higher if I wanted).

I pay a straight 1% service charge to my US bank.

But it's just paper anyway.

Today at Caribe Express US$1 = RD$ 36.50. Does this mean that the dollar is stronger or that the peso is weaker?
