This is a new one to me. In the UK we have trainspotters, but I have never come across mall shop spotters. Do you get a badge if you photograph every shop in a mall?

Sao Paolo has also evolved leaps and bounds in the past 50 years. We all know building great malls with expensive shops is a true demonstration that things are moving forward.... errr..

Pichardo, Rome is burning, and you're promoting how nice and warm it's become.
Oh my, what a shame. That's what happens when a place experiences great economic growth and development (southeastern Brazil) with no migration controls what-so-ever (northern Brazilians flocking to the wealthier southeastern Brazil in search of a better way of life). Hopefully the tell tell signs are ingrained in the minds of Dominican government officials. Unlike Brazil, the DR's immigration flow can be controlled.

On the other hand, at least the DR has a lower percentage (compared to Brazil and much of Latin America) of its urban population living in slums:

poblacinurbanaviviendoe.jpg

Plus, unlike Brazil, the DR is among the 3 countries with the greatest success in reducing the number of people living in slums during the past decade:

www.unhabitat.org/documents/SOWC10/SP/227million_will_have_left_the_slums_by2010.pdf

Since the second link is of 2010 and the first graph is of 2005, I think its not too hard for most people to understand that the actual percentage of the DR figure is much lower of what it was in 2005 (roughly 8% of the population currently lives in slums).

Bummer...

Yes, PC . dead mall and dead university promoter. Enjoy your fantasy world.

In sensible economies such as Scotland efforts are focused into the devlopment space of the community . For example univesites and colleges in Scotland focus in part towards producing wool. Technical courses in colleages and universities focus toward textiles, fashion etc. Commercial courses focus towards marketing textiles Worldwide and marketing to tourists to Scotland.

Textiles | Scottish Enterprise | Scottish Enterprise

I was privaliged to serve on an academic board in the UK and could see this process ongoing.

Joke people in the DR developing UASD build car parks ! When are they all fired! When are the car parks put to better use student accommodation or urban farms. The Worlds leading univesity Cambridge UK prohibits students from owning cars.
How many papers have the professors who loiter in UASD published ... figures and Citation Index references please...

The house of cards will crumble except perhaps for the tourist and tropical fruits industry unless some branches are cut off ... Students, for example who study useless subjects year upon year upon year.

How can architects and engineers get so many things wrong after so many malls have been built. This mall is not remotely green and is more inconvenient than Mega centro which was built years ago . Firstly the entry and egree for cars is ONLY on Lincoln so bad luck for all those coming on JFKennedy and the ramps are designed for maximum collisions ..There is a distinct lack of elevators and next to No natural light penetrates the building . When you exit , you must turn left and fight with all the traffic in Lincoln and then if you wish to turn right at JFKennedy you will find yourself blocked by guaguas and taxis publicos all 3 deep on the corner....a total lackof decent planning . Inside the concrete maze you will find the normal range of brand stores that 95% of Dominicans can not afford and a Very average JUMBO ..worth avoiding
