The big issue I’m having is I’m here in the states so I’m trying to initiate a wire transfer requires me to sign paperwork in the DR. So the other caveat is I’m not sure if they require extra information and if so how long of a trip do I need to take to the DR to make sure the process goes smoothly.

It took me two trips to DR and around 45 days to complete the opening of my account. I had to show 3 years of income, W2, bank statements ...etc

Yep, A bank reference letter signed with last 3 months statements. Although, A full month had past when I started the process they had me e-mail the most recent last 3 months of bank statements.
