Does anyone know where this can be bought on the island?
I can send you a link where you can purchase it frozen from the US. If you have a reliable forwarder, it still arrives in perfect ice cold condition.
Pretty costly (19$/pound).
If you manage to find lamb products locally, please let me know. There used to be a company that marketed lamb products but they had to shut down because of the low demand.

I love ground lamb and each time I go back to the UK my mum has to cook me my favorite childhood dish that is ground lamb in a thick tomato sauce layers of zucchini baked in the over with melted cheese on top. You can make it with other ground meats but lamb just makes the flavour that much richer....if anyone finds ground lamb here then please let me know!

Good Luck with this one ! Ever seen any Lamb here ??? Don't get confused with "Chivo". Extremely Hard to find Lamb in the DR.
We used to be able to get fresh lamb here in Cabarete many years ago by a lady that reared sheep on her property and it was excellent. I have purchased imported lamb in the supermarkets which were pretty good, most of it New Zealand lamb, but it has never been cheap! There is also someone near Jarabacoa that rears sheep but I can't remember the name of the guy. Chivo (goat) is available everywhere but tastes nothing like lamb

It’s been awhile, but we always find frozen Australian lamb at Nacional (27 de Feb). One year I mentioned to a butcher in Palenque that I’d love to cook a leg of lamb for Easter. The next day some guy on a moto showed up at our gate with two of them, freshly butchered.

Now I want a lamb roast……….

Never seen lamb in the north coast, but on the way to Monte Christi (on highway 1), there are a lot of goats ("chivos"). If you go early morning can see them brought in by the roadside, live and playing around...

Then if pass near lunchtime can see them hanging upside down, skinned and cleaned, ready for sale... (can't get fresher than that...!)

There are also some restaurants along the same area, well worth trying their goat stew. I even got some take away...

This is from before Covid, no idea if still goes on...

I stopped into Jumbo Puerto Plata and picked up 6 packs of lamb burgers. Each pack is just 8 oz. for 349 RD. I will be preparing a loaf of gyro meat soon and will review the lamb after that is done. Thanks to Lou2100 for the heads up on the ground lamb. Lou, the lamb does not appear to be seasoned. I have not seen marjoram(mejorana) in any North Coast stores lately, I want some for my gyro if anyone has seen some.

I just weighed the lamb burger packs from Jumbo and found them to have 11 oz. per pack. They are marked Schulze Lambs on the packaging.

I put 3 packages on the scale and had just over 2 pounds. For sure it's not seasoned lamb. I mixed the 2 pounds of lamb with 4 pounds of ground beef and whipped up a beautiful loaf of gyro meat,
Thanks. That is exactly what i plan on doing. I guess you bought them all . As Jumbo no longer list that location as having any , only La romana for now. But I seen pictures playero also carrying it too. thanks again for the update

No, I did not buy all that was available. I bought 6 of some 15 packages. They are in the same frozen bin as the hamburgers.
