The non-profit Fighting to Keep Sosua's History Alive (and the sad state of the Jewish Museum)

"Dominican Haven" is sadly out of print. Last time I looked, online used booksellers were asking about $80 for it. There is no digital version available, and trust me I looked. I'm not sure if you have any clout with the Museum of Jewish Heritage, the publisher, but I think that most would...

The non-profit Fighting to Keep Sosua's History Alive (and the sad state of the Jewish Museum)

Hugh mentioned that when I was making this piece- that some feathers got ruffled between him & the local Jewish community. I deliberately left that out because the video would've quickly devolved into a gossip piece which wouldn't have been productive for anyone. One of the descendants sheds...

The Dominican Republic's Epic Quest for Baseball Glory

I apologize for my ignorance, but what does N.A mean? North American?

The Dominican Republic's Epic Quest for Baseball Glory

A side note- I have a friend on the north coast who runs a batting cage that's free for the kids. He's long term plan is to use at as a pathway to education. Eventually it will include English classes and plan b career planning should baseball not be a viable career. Baseball, or any sport...

[history] Why the Dominican Republic was the only country to expand visas to Jews escaping Hitler

Lucky. When I was looking all the hardcopies started at around $50 on amazon. I must have been shopping at the wrong time.

[history] Why the Dominican Republic was the only country to expand visas to Jews escaping Hitler

Yes! That is one of the main sources I used. Out of print in English so hardcopies are pricey. The e-book was around $25. I can't recommend it enough

[history] Why the Dominican Republic was the only country to expand visas to Jews escaping Hitler

Fair enough. The title I used for DR1 is probably more accurate then the one used for YouTube. I will see if I can change it. As for the DR numbers, I've seen ranges from 400-1,200. Most of the peer reviewed sources put it between 400-500. (This is just for Sosua, I am not sure if the numbers...

What's the Difference between Americans and Dominicans?

Easy. Canadians pronounce "process" like it's spelled; Americans pronounce it "prah-sis." Jokes a side, that is a future ambition. I want to zig zag across the US Canadian boundary and make videoes on the different places I visit. This guy beat me to doing an overall comparison.

I made a short video about why I'm moving from USA to DR

So far so good! I love Cabarete. I don't drink, and am one of those weirdos who prefers nature over culture. That makes Cabarete perfect for me. I do want to check out POP, maybe spend a day there. Also hope to make it out Samana, Monte Cristi, and Barahona at some point.

That's fair. I was pissed and lashing out. I shouldn't have posted that

What's the Difference between Americans and Dominicans?

The project is complete now; no further input is needed. I don't feel like sharing it here given the overwhelming negative response. It cracks me up. For the expats here, what do you say when people back home ask what the people are like? Do you say "everyone is an individual. How dare you ask...

What's the Difference between Americans and Dominicans?

100% agree. Was that really a Shakespeare quote ??!!?? Haha I've heard it before didn't know it was attributed to Shakespeare

What's the Difference between Americans and Dominicans?

Very true! I thought of using the line "Judging the DR from only living in Sosua would be like judging the US from only living in Las Vegas." Ended up using a different caveat since most of the audience won't know anything about Sosua.
