Cost to attend public school - 12th grade

I am pretty sure they get more than 1000 pesos per child in school. I will pay attention this year, but it is 2k pesos when they start school again ( round about now ) and 2k pesos again sometime in January or February. Obviously for the lower income families, not the general population.

    Oh, no!

Invectimin does not kill the larva, if a medical doctor-- that I talked to recently --is to be believed. He says that is why treatment is in 2-times. The first to fight off the out-break, invectimin does the job, the 2nd to kill off larva/eggs that were incubating, that's where the...

U.S. citizen became a victim of Dominican official when trying to cross into Haiti

Let's start by saying that I have zero idea how and where this incident occured. Years back, I used to go from time to time to the big market days in Dajabon. Twice a week ( there again, I have no idea, relying solely on my memory ) they used to open the border wide ( and I DO NOT KNOW if it...

U.S. citizen became a victim of Dominican official when trying to cross into Haiti

Well in my case it was a DGM agent vs me, 3 DR soldiers, a colleague of the DGM agent and a bunch of Dominican bystanders. In the end it got resolved in the office of the Boss of DGM at the border and she basically told the DGM agent to stop being a dik. So until proven otherwise, I'll go with...

U.S. citizen became a victim of Dominican official when trying to cross into Haiti

I'm going with the American's story. I witnessed --- first hand ---- how DGM agents can be c###s. I have already posted my experience on DR1, a bunch of years ago about an " altercation" I had with a DGM agent at that exact same spot, on the border bridge at Dajabon.

Dominican money makers are going well

I would guess that we are all on that list. When I send cash to myself, or to another person in the DR ( cough, pesky limits, cough, ), I imagine it counts as remittances.

    Heat treatment roof

Before hand, on rough concrete, there is a liquid one applies, as thin as water but sticky as hell, it goes into all the cracks and crevices, and sort of hardens. It makes applying the sealer much easier/smoother.

    Heat treatment roof

I cannot remember the brand when I originally applied it ( after getting rid of tarmac ). Sorry. I use Lanco brand every other year to apply an extra layer.

    Heat treatment roof

Sellador de techo ( spelling ? ). Roof sealant . Reflects something like 80% of sun rays--- supposedly. When we changed from tarmac to roof sealer, we saw the temperature go down a bunch of degrees inside the house.

55 divorces per 100 marriages in the Dominican Republic

I have been happily married coming on 15 years...... For our 4th year anniversary I took my wife on a trip to Australia, for our 15th anniversary I will go and pick her up.

Using Dominican Passport to Enter DR

As I recall my wife ---- who also let her Dominican passport expire about 20 years ago ---- doesn't need her Swiss passport unlocked. However on arrival and departure she has to show her Dominican cedula as well as her passport.

Flights between Europe and the DR

Agreed, always seem to be cheaper going through the US, for some reason. Since COVID I've given up and gone Iberia via Madrid, and also edelweiss via Zurich. The downside of Edelweiss is they only run a flight or 2 per week.

What are the provinces with the most millionaires in US dollars not Dominican pesos (per capita)?

I have to disagree........ A million will produce 80k a year give or take. Not much for Monaco, London or New-York, but this is dr1. 80K a year in the DR doing fukc all ? I'd live like a king.

    Return Ticket 1 year away

I travelled to the DR, last October with a flexible return ticket that was 6 months down the road. Nobody asked me for anything at check-in----- which was just as well, as I had no residency ( long story, I was forced to let it expiry ).

Would $1600 a month allow 1 person to live comfortably in the DR ?

My fear is that the DR in 20-25 years will have " caught " up with NA/Europe in terms of cost of life. I say 20-25 years because that is when we will be paid our retirement pensions. Hence why we have been spending 6 months a year in the DR for the past 10+ years. Hedging our bets 😂.

Would $1600 a month allow 1 person to live comfortably in the DR ?

That's why I added that it depended on where the poster came from. He is right saying that pork filet mignon ( with 1 L ) is cheap in the DR. Around 175 pesos per lb at LaSirena if I remember correctly. Beef fillet is more expensive at around 450/500 pesos per lb---- which is dirt cheap in my...

Would $1600 a month allow 1 person to live comfortably in the DR ?

Filet mignon comes from the French language and refers to the fillet of pork----even though it could be used for the fillet of any animal---- however the beef equivalent in culinary terms is the tournedos.

Would $1600 a month allow 1 person to live comfortably in the DR ?

Filet mignon, depending on where the poster is from, is usually the filet cut of the pig. Great piece of meat, btw. And dead cheap, even in supermarkets, in the DR.

Can't pay overstay fee in cash now??

My guess is all plastic equals credit card. Even Amex cards issued in the EU are not credit cards per se, they are differed debit ( ie the whole amount owed is taken out of a bank account at 30 or 60 days. ). One of my french bank even issues differed debit cards that has the word " credit "...
