Sounds like a 3rd world govt to me

Except maybe for DR, all those countries/governments share one thing in common and that's the relentless quest for 1) cheap labor and 2) wage suppression, which benefit their donor friends from corporations and Big business. Naturally, cheap labor/mass immigration leads to wage suppression for...

Sounds like a 3rd world govt to me

Not that they don't understand reality. They know exactly what they are doing. What the current administration want is cheap labor, which is why they allow things like to happen in the first place.

The complete chaos in immigration at Las Americas SDQ airport

You guys should give La Isabela airport a try. Best airport in the region to be honest. I flew in from Cuba and the whole landing to immigration to exit took less than 30 minutes. No time wasted and no BS. It's way smaller than SDQ but also less hectic. Just a smooth experience.

El Dotolcito sentenced to jail for murder

Exactly. It's a lawless country and even some expats have left due to so much extortion from the system. Such as Taylormadedreams after he was a victim of home invasion with video... well guess what... they didn't do jack sh!t about it... unless he paid dollars first. Just too many people...

Can't pay overstay fee in cash now??

I flew out of SDQ yesterday and they allowed me to pay cash. Also there were no signs tellling travelers that only card payments were accepted. So I'm guessing this new "rule" is like any other rule in the DR: it's barely enforced. Or at least it's not enforced at SDQ. What I didn't like...

Spanish Consulate says 3,077 have been naturalized under new 2022 law

"descendants of Spaniards" Isn't this like the majority of Latin America's population (bar Brazil) or am I missing something? Are they trying to give Spanish nationality to most latinos?

Can't pay overstay fee in cash now??

The new overstay fees start from 3500 pesos or $60 USD. Imagine being held hostage and missing your $500+ flight over 60 bucks that they won't take in cash.

Can't pay overstay fee in cash now??

This is what someone just wrote on Facebook: "I called Migracion Puerto Plata Tel: 809-508-2555. It's true. You can only pay via credit card. So for those of you worried about using USD or EU or RD, it's moot. Credit card only" I wonder if it's the same rule in all Dominican airports now.

    A Deal With The Devil

That's just good ole prostitution and its entirely transactional. They're in it for the money/resources, they're not gay. The reverse happens too. Like the Dominican gay men who have married women and produced children even though they never were into women in the first place, and only started...

    A Deal With The Devil

We need to stop conflating the LGBs with the TQs. Often times they don't even get along amongst each other in their so called "community". Those are 2 completely different concepts.

Can't pay overstay fee in cash now??

You're not protected against fraud when using a debit card though. You are when using a credit card. And we know card frauds is at an all-time high in the DR.

Can't pay overstay fee in cash now??

Supposedly the new regulation kicked in on April 1st, you travelled before that date for sure.

Can't pay overstay fee in cash now??

That's the thing, I'm not even sure about debit cards being accepted.... many people have been reporting they take credit cards only. It's still all hearsay at this point because no official announcement.

Can't pay overstay fee in cash now??

I'm reading reports from travelers that were asked to pay their overstay fees with a card when leaving the DR. Apparently there are now signs in Dominican airports telling foreigners that only credit or debit card payments are accepted... NO MORE CASH. Is this true? Any official link or news...

    Dermatology recommendation?

Can someone recommend a good dermatology clinic in Santo Domingo? One that you've actually been to and you were satisfied with the level of knowledge/expertise of the doctor? Language is not an issue.

    Who trains these idiots?

I had no cap they do turn clear, but after a few minutes. Not immediately when I step foot in the bank and the security dude is guarding the entrance. I had no hat either (I knew about that rule.)
