Are there any close cigar "factories" near Santo Domingo? It's looking like we are going to be staying 2-3 days vs. 1 day now in Santo Domingo before moving onward towards Samana and would love to check one out if possible. If it's a good distance away, how much do you think it would cost to get there via guagua or other mode of transportation?

Would kind of like to see a bigger production. I found an article talking about a place in La Romana, Tabacalera de Garcia. Is it worth a ride on the guagua, and what kind of cost would we be looking at?
Apparently there's a factory in San Pedro de Macoris. Contact Dre Broeders on this forum he's very familiar with them.

The place in San Pedro is good. It is locaed to the right of rotunda as you enter San Pedro on the Malecon road. Proceed towards the malecon and you will see a church on the left. The factory is across the street fromthe church on th left. This is the same factory that produces Balmoral Cigars for export. There are fine cigars made here and you can get them w/o the rings for a very reasonabl price. $2.00 for Robusto Connecticut or Maduro wrapper.
