Hello everbody, First of all, I have been coming down to Sosua for 7 years now and my wife and i celebrate and anniversary there every year. We have Dominican friends there and it is an absolute pleasure to see them again. Throughout the years suttle changes have been made and i must say this year i'm quite impressed. Our group of friends consists of regulars and newbies every year so naturally i found myself explaining the days of my first year compared to now. Unfortunatley due to price constraints an AI was our only choice, which quickly ended when we took our group into town for some food. Food quality has improved drastically, we hit up a few restaurants and everyone was thoroughly impressed. Baileys pizza is to die for. (Diablo).Ate out pretty well everynight. The electricity issue has improved, experienced 3 blackouts in 14 days. 5 secs each. Maybe just lucky. Meters are everwhere and no more electical hack job, rats nests. Cleaned up. I didn't drink on the resort, so my daily morning walk consisted of going to the liquor store,(Barcelo Platinum)noticed some of the projects around town, talked to the locals, and generally checked out Dominican life. Our friends took us to our favourite beaches, Playa Grande,(3 times as wide now) and Diamante,(didn't know there were flyng fish there). Dudu Lagoon has been expanded to include the blue caves and now is lit up at night. Met some travellers at the AI who were told not to go off the resort, which ****ed me and my wife off. We grabbed the 8 of them (late 20's) and showed them the time of their lives, minus losing some cash at the casino.LOL I think they were out every night after that. My wifes curent name is mother goose because she pretty well showed them the ropes of Sosua night life. Everybody had a blast, and showed common sense. Word of advice, check out the Bravissimo show at Ocean World, skip the meal, Never been there in all my years, but what a show. Cabarete at night was great, beatiful setting, a tad expensive but worth it. Sosua is a great city that has tons to offer. I know that contradicts some of the advice from other websites, some posters on this site, but i feel it truly is a beautiful town and has come into it's own. Inject some $ into the local economy and see for youself. Get off the resort. Sosua beach friendly as usual, beautiful swimming and cold drinks. A lot more fish than usual, 4 catamarans prked in the bay.
I look forward to next year with all of our friends and only can hope to have half as much fun as this year.
P.S If the waves are large , don't go in. We witnessed 2 injuries that coud have been prevented with common sense.
Cheers DougieJ
