The best walking neighborhood

Which area do you feel has the best walking neighborhood?
I mean shops, restaurants, pharmacy, calmado etc. with-in a 10-15min walking radius? I left out safety because I don't think any area in a large city is safe but if you stay aware of your surroundings they are pretty much the same.

You have bad areas and then you have Bad areas.

Safe living in Santo Domingo!

I have a friend from San Diego CA who will live in Santo Domingo this Summer with his wife and four children. He will be traveling to Haiti a lot to help with the earthquake relief and leaving his family alone for periods of time.

What is the safest neighborhood they can live in?
