What brand is your car? If you have a US model, especially Chrysler brand (Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, etc.) I can recommend Chryscar in Santo Domingo (close to Aquario nacional) - they are VEEERY good and have been working my Chrysler for some time now. They are US trained and have all the manuals, mechanical and electrical for the US models. They can get parts for you as well. They are best option to Reid & Co and the rates they charge are very reasonable. If you become a regular customer of theirs then the rates they will charge you (after maybe 2 visits) will be not much higher than a street mechanic would charge you. They have a big "taller" which is always filled with vehicles. Recently they have been working other American models besides Chrysler brands. Interested members PM me for contact details.
what they have already done for me:
- diagnosed & repaired electrical problem, mirrors, locks, dashboard, trunk opening not working
- diagnosed & repaired cruise control not kicking in
- timing belt & pump replacement
- weird nose at rear wheels local mechanics in Higuey could not pinpoint
- repaired spindle and lower control arm when the ball joint broke at full speed on Luperon and my front right wheel ended up in T against the chassis, resulting in spindle being taken out of its place and lower control arm damaged, and the car looked like in a big front accident
- diagnosed and pinpointed AC issue, AC pumping low in idle
- diagnosed and pinpointed fan and radiator issues
Now if you are in Santiago or North Coast, I second TheHun. He is known to be very good specialist especially for German brands.
