The tariff is going to be around US $90 + for up to 4-5 persons via taxi. The travel time will be about 1? hours depending on time of day and traffic conditions.

There is bus transportation available. However, it requires transfers from one route to another, for the uninitiated traveler it would be a logistical headache.

If you speak at least a bit of Spanish and can tolerate some (relative) discomfort for a couple hours, you can do it for about 500 or 600 pesos a person through an exciting triple guagua mission. Guagua to La Romana, then a coach to Higuey, then a guagua to the airport.

The current posted rate is 120 USD for up to 5 people, night charge (7PM - 5AM) + 10%.
For cheaper - take guagua to the main road going to La Romana and Higuey, get there on the bus going to Higuey (usually every hour or so) and then from Higuey to Punta Cana. You save lots of money but not time, so allow yourself longer then hour and half for the local transportation.
