I am a (white) american planning on moving to dr within the next year with my (dominican-american) boyfriend.

We both are dealers in an Atlantic City casino, does anyone know is it hard to get a job in a Dominican casino for foriegners? and also do they make any money?

I hate to burst your bubble, but casino jobs in DR pay next to nothing. Believe me, I know. My husband [Dominican] began his casino career in Santo Domingo in the early 70's when it was a good paying job - he's worked in Atlantic City since 1980. Most of the guys he worked with in DR left for the US to make more money. It doesn't work in reverse.

PM me if you want more info. He still has contacts in several DR casinos.

Do u know why the moneys so bad, people don't tip? cause our casinos pay us almost nothing($4 an hr) but the money all comes from the tips.
But anyway thanks for the info, I'll keep that in mind when we get all of our plans together.

Dealers make about RD$6,000 to RD$10,000 per month in salary, depending on the casino, location, foreign language skills, and the number of games they can deal. In most casinos, the tips are pooled and split also between non-dealers like cash cage personnel and supervisors.

I wonder if the dealers who work in tourist areas do better than those who are in, for example, Santo Domingo? All the dealers are Dominican in the capital - that I've seen, anyway. I do remember that our daughter said that the dealer they had at the Hamaca in Boca Chica was American - makes sense, they're after tourist $$$.

Conchman, do American dealers with AC or Vegas experience get paid more in touristy-area casinos?
