A group of us were scheduled to leave for a 2 week golfing holiday in Egypt on Friday but, with the civil unrest there, we are thinking that the Dominican Republic would be a great alternative. I have heard that there is great golfing in the Punta Cana and La Romana areas, but don't know much more than that. Can anyone recommend a resort in each area and some courses that you would recommend playing? We are a group of 26 with 20 golfers. Some scuba diving would be nice too. Thanks.

How wonderful: #1 would be Casa de Campo with three Pete Dye courses
#2 would be Punta Cana which will allow you to play a different course every day of the week for two weeks...And you can go to Cap Cana and play Jack Nicklaus' Punta Espada course a super gen used by the Champion's tour the last three years...
No matter where you go you will have great golf and lots of fun...

Puntacana Resort & Club and Tortuga Bay Villas have Las Canas, Corales and Hacienda (soon to open) on their grounds. With Punta Espada a 15 minute drive away next door in Cap Cana. Btw Puntacana Resort & Club was named Golf Resort of the Year by The International Association of Golf Tour Operators.
Iberostate golf is the course at the Iberostar resorts - it has had some good reviews.
The only one to avoid is White Sands which is neither scenic nor well maintained.
