Are ideas on 1 day trips (leave/return same day) worth taking from Bavaro to other areas on the East Coast? Thanks in advance Don

By "non excursion" do you mean an independent trip by car or public transport?

You can go to Isla Saona independently and negotiate a fee with the local boat owners from Bayahibe, which is only about an hour and a half drive from B?varo. You can go to Boca de Yuma, a fishing village to eat seafood and visit the Ponce de Le?n house/museum in San Rafael de Yuma on the way - also just over one hour by car. It's also possible to cross to Isla Saona from Boca de Yuma with a local boat owner. Otherwise a day out at Macao Beach, about 20 mins by car. You can also visit the city of Higuey and its basilica (45 mins drive).

Other options are the Ojos ind?genas reserve (freshwater lagoons in a rainforest setting) in the Punta Cana Resort and Club, the newly inaugurated Laguna de B?varo reserve in the B?varo-Punta Cana area.

Hi:

Simply google Punta Cana things to do and this web site will give you a list of day excursions. Altos de Chivon is worth checking out. It is a recreation of a medival Spanish village with artisan shops and restaurants. Good luck.

Hey Chirimoya/LTSteve, thanks for the input. We would be going with friends who have cars or renting cars depending on the group. There's a few options/places on here which we still not have explored, so we'll try to schedule them in the future. We did get a chance to visit this now called "cave" while en-route to Boca de Yuma that at one time appeared to be a "cenote". However, it was now dry for the most part. Someone probably drill some wells nearby and depleted the aquifer. Still it was a pretty cool place with great photo ops. Don
