For most, the evenings are the best part about Sosua, you will have no issues, you will get a lot of attention from the girls in the bars and on the street, but don't get fall down arseholed and you will have as good a time as many many others who visit. Rarely does anything bad happen to anyone in Sosua who does not bring it on themselves. Go out, have a drink, meet some new friends, have a few girls and spend the days by the pool or on the beach.
Don't read to much into what you read or hear about Sosua, it tends to be scaremongering and over dramatic imaginations who go on and on about Sosua being this or that.
Hotels, well that is more for your peace of mind really, any hotel where you have security on the door and it is a respectable joint will be cool. There are less secure places around town, but many tend to change to these after several visits and are confident of the surroundings, have learned how to treat people and how to get rid of annoyances etc, without offending.
You will be fine, just avoid the sh1t or you may begin to smell, clingy smells are bad news and so for this reason I'd advise to not even bothering making friends with any of the natives wanting to do you a favor, never ever any good comes out of making friends with local girls or motoconchos. You will hear guys on here banging on about how they have so many local friends, a guy for this , a guy for that,,,, eventually it catches up on them and they get stung, somehow.
