Anybody know if you are allowed to stay overnight in the transit lounge at Panama City airport?

My GF is Ukrainian citizen living in DR, I am trying to get her to meet me in the Bahamas in January, only way to fly from DR is via Panama City (without US visa) but its an overnight stay via Copa Airlines.

Its a pain in the ass to get Bahamas visa already, I dont wanna have to get a Panama visa also, just for the overnight stay.

Is there a flight from DR to Jamaica direct? That could be another route.

does this mean she has to stay in a lounge inside the airport (for a 12hour transit stay) or she is free to travel in Panama City, and catch the flight the next day?

Unfortunately, the only flight available has a 14 hour lay-over, not sure if they are picky. If she does not go through customs/immigration, I think she maybe fine with the extended transit layover.

She cannot leave the terminal. But the terminal is one of the best airports you will see. But I guess late at night all the stores are closed. They have a great duty free array of shops.

But for sure she cannot leave. I know because a few years ago I was with a Dominican girlfriend connecting and there was a cancellation, hence a huge delay. They would not let her leave to go to town with me.

whats your opinion on the 14 hour layover, considering that legally she is not supposed to stay there for more than 12hours. If I remember the airport correctly, there is no need to go through customs/immigration when catching a connecting flight, and there is no 2nd terminal which may require going through customs/immigration, so she should be fine on the 14hour transit stay, unless of course the airline makes an issue at check-in, but this is doubtful too.

There is no need to stay 14 hours in Panama, Copa offers 1-2 hours layover on both ways, so do not try to find the lowest fare combining cheapest flights. Transit is allowed only if connecting time 12 hours or less, otherwise passenger will be refused boarding.

TWOV (TRANSIT WITHOUT VISA):
VISA REQUIRED, EXCEPT FOR HOLDERS OF CONFIRMED ONWARD TICKETS
FOR A MAX. TRANSIT >TIRULES/R32 TIME OF 12 HOURS.

The connecting flight to Nassau Bahamas has at least one 14hour layover, trust me, I spent 3hours on the Copa website trying flights from Santiago and Santo Domingo. The flight to Nassau in only available a few days per week, or its sold out in key days on the general time frame where we wanna go (going Jan 5 to 7) and returning Jan. 15 to 17. I will try again maybe some flights became available due to people holding reservations.
