A possible environmental disaster in the making GMOs (genetically modified organisms). The world is just starting to find out about GMOs as it has been well hidden.

The plants that are genetically modified to have their own defense against insects produce an insecticide 10 times stronger than what you would spray to kill the insects. It also kills the insects that feed on the bad insects so there goes the natural defense.

This also includes the seeds you eat corn, soya, and vegetables tomatoes, potatoes and many others. This means that every time you eat corn flakes you get RAID free.

It might sound funny if it was not so serious. The French have just done a many year study and found that rats eating GM corn developed large tumors and are now considering banning GMOs.

The Russians are also considering banning imports of GM corn.

England studies found that rats eating GM potatoes and tomatoes had many health problems.

Corn native to Mexico has been contaminated with cross pollination with GM and now it is difficult to find native corn seed. They also have Round Up ready seed that you can plant a field and then spray with Round Up and it will not harm the crop.

Studies in other countries show that animals grassing on the plants died and also it affected the fertility of anyone eating the crop.

There where improper studies done by the company and now the people are the test rats.

The worst the US tells you that you are not allowed to know that you are eating GM foods. There is no labeling needed.

The Dominican's are already in this fight to try and stop Monsanto. Here is two web sites-http://www.dominicantoday.com/dr/eco...itors-GM-seeds

The Haitians are being supplied with seeds that will cross pollinate with Dominican plants which has been proven in Mexico. Mexico did not plant GM corn but nearly all their corn has now been infected.

As far as Round Up it is probably the biggest selling herbicide in the Dominican Republic.

There are many issues with GMOs. One of my biggest beefs is that it has put the great majority of commodity crops into the control of a small handful of companies. GMO pollen from corn has been found in subsistence farms more than 100 miles away from industrial farmlands so it's getting into everything. Ecuador has banned all GMO crops to protect the native strains that they were selected from.

As long as there are no "GM Women", I guess it's still safe to eat them???????
And to think some people have REAL PROBLEMS to worry about!!!

There are GMO Women. You have to be on the lookout for the "adam's apple" and the big feet.

Agriculture and health are not DR related. Well I live here and think it is there is a ongoing fight to keep the GMOs out of the country but the big chemical will find a way to force there way in as they have in many countries. The health issue has been squash by the FDA and the World Health Origination who are controlled by big industries so you can not have the information you need to make a judgement. The selves in the supper market are full of products from the US like corn oil, soya oil and corn syrup all from the US which does not label GMO ingredients. Is there a link between cancer and GMO I don't know but more and more scientist think so. Why do the owners of these big chemical industries only eat organic food do they know something.

The Dominican Republic imports
in 2011 425000 metric tons of soya meal
in 2011 140000 metric tons of soya oil
in 2011 1100000 metric tons of corn
they also import canola oil
most all from the USA
in the USA 93% of soya is GMOs
89% of corn is GMOs
75% of canola is GMOs
the corn that falls from the trucks and sprouts along the side of the road who knows.

FYI, the rats in that study were from a species of rat that has an extremely high suspectibility to cancer. That study was designed to get these results, before it event started. It's the equivalent of the famous now widely discredited 'hockey stick' study of global warming.

Food and Agricultural Import Regulations and Standards - Narrative
Novel Foods: Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) GMOs are accepted. Currently, there are no provisions in Dominican laws for genetically modified products, although the Dominican Republic became signatory of the Cartagena Protocol in early 2006. There are no regulations in place regarding Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) neither from the Ministry of Environment nor from the Ministry of Public Health. A draft of the environmental law following CODEX standards is being considered for further discussion.
