So many people have died to preserve freedom and we get an idiot making absurb comments like this Winkeladvocat, I take personal offence to his posts as I lost someone in WWII
He is history.
The now defunct poster, a victim of collateral damage, got me to pondering his now erased remarks.
As we honor our veterans this day, the thought of war and death always is forever inexplicably intertwined.
And while the spectre of war is not something to be relished or cherished or celebrated, those who serve/served should never be forgotten.....and that is what this day is about.
Lest we forget, how many future deaths were actually prevented because of those wars. That may seem like an odd justification to some, but the history of some past world leaders bears review.
Stalin: Millions killed....but no war.
Pol Pot: Killed approximately 2 million Cambodians....but no war.
Mao-Tse-Tung: Killed millions during the "cultural" revolution, but no war.
More people have likely been killed by dictators and despots than all the wars combined.
War may not be the answer, but as Hitler and Emperor Hirohito found out, sometimes it is the only way to prevent total subjugation of the people. And victory over those who would seek world domination by force can only be achieved by those willing to protect, fight and sometimes die......The Veterans.
Respectfully,
