It will be an exercise in futility to find any quality wood products including hardwood floors in the tourist zone. If you are going to encounter hardwood, it will be in Santo Domingo.

Do not expect to find the abundance of quality, style, or type of products in the RD you would routinely find in the States, Canada, or EU. Prepare yourself to acquire and use what is available. If you do find quality items they will be pricey.

Perfect case of whine in Rome

In fact some of the many and most humble barrio homes have lovely ceramic tiles throughout.
Wood is not practical in the tropics... Termites as CC states, but also think about it...humidity...unpaved roads and the daily dust...etc...if you want luxury, research stones, marbles and composites...wood por Piso es no practical aqui.
just saying. Beast.

PJT had the recent opportunity to visit the mansion of a Brit in the east. It is on the market for sale. All of the building and its out buildings custom wooden storm shutters, at minimum 50 pairs, had been removed due to rot and insect infestation. The replacment aluminum shutters were custom made and powder coated. The mansion itself had inlaid hardwood floors in all its rooms. The hardwood was imported and installed by foreign professionals. The remaining flooring for the kitchen, service, and other areas was of imported ceramic or stone tiles. It is only a matter of time before the hardwood floors will succumb to the elements as did the shutters. But of course when one is rich enough to own a holiday villa of this type, money is no object to a change of color or style.

The tiled areas will have a very long service life unless the owner gets bored.

The moral of this lesson is: unless your are a multi millionaire, go with affordable tiles.

Note: Could it be the property is on the market because the present owner is fed up with the maintenance costs ?

PJT

If you can afford "Caoba" flooring, and can find a "Craftsman" to cut, install, and "finish" it, you will have a beautiful, lasting, floor!
But that is not likely.

Get good Italian, or Spanish tile, or marble flooring.
Just remember that "Dog PI$$", and vinegar will "EAT" marble!:cry::cry:

"DJ", those "Marks", are called, "The Patina Of Age"!
Not a bad thing!... (I Have THAT! :pirate::pirate::pirate::cheeky:)
"Tiles", on the other hand, get chipped and cracked, THAT is called "UGLY"!
Try to "Refinish" those tiles.
Only advantage of tiles, is they are cheap, and even a "Dominicano" can do a presentable installation.
SOMETIMES!
