My bet is each column of bottles uses shrink wrap then they use clear plastic over the whole thing.

Mythbusters once made a boat out Newspapers and ice.

I thought that I was the only one around here knowing about the nr raft race. The bottle boat is too good for that race sink wise but the fire hose would certainly cause it some problems. Soooooooo, just add a keel.
