For the Carribbean(sp) this is the one of the best values for your vacation dollar (next to Cuba...which I think may be cheaper...?). As far as living expenses go, you can expect things to be about par with prices we were used to paying in Calgary, AB. If you are talking about vacationing in an all inclusive I don't think you can find a cheaper deal in the Carribbean than a Canadian charter package to somewhere like Playa Dorada.
