I drove to Las Terrenas & Samana on a Yamaha 125 Zuma scooter--picking up two hitch-hikers along the way. This is a food mission! I made it here--155km on 1.1 gallons of gas--that's an average of 88MPG. Amazing!!

The scooter is not quite 2 years old and already has 18,814km (11,758 miles) on it from traveling around the island. The only maintenance i've done on it is change the oil & air filter.

Of all the places I've eaten in the DR, I think the Chinese restaurant definitely gave me the most food for the proportion of money paid. It's cheap and good and has the best view of any restaurant in Samana City.

We drive 3 hours to Samana on a scooter to eat Chinese food. She cries because she wants spaghetti. True story.

Wow--These pics are fantastic, Frank-- Great job! I've been wondering if my 125 cc pasola could handle the hills on that stretch of toll road between Las Terrenas and El Catey--- ??

Yes, as long as it is in good shape, it should make it with no problem. Just make sure you have good tires on it, the oil level is right, and your air filter is clean. These are paramount and easy things to check, and yet, somehow, the Dominicans over-look everything except the oil. :squareeye

That looks like a great trip, Where did you start from? That is giving me a few more ideas of things to do when we get there. Last year we drove through there and were stopped by Policia/Military and of course wanted something. We got through without having to pay anything. Did you have an road blocks to deal with?

We started in Cabarete and drove to Las terrenas--taking the new Atlantic Coastal Highway--next to the Samana airport. From there we went to Samana--stopping at Porto Bahia Marina, and hanging out there for the day. Then we headed back to Las terrenas, spent another night there, and then the next day we headed back to Cabarete where i had to work Sunday night with a sore but and tired from riding all day.

Oops...i forgot to answer one of your questions...no, we did not run into the usual police road block outside of Nagua. They're usually standing there where the coconut trees line highway 5. However, because we got a lat start on Friday, i think they had left for the day. On Sunday, we passed a little after 12 noon, and they're usually eating lunch at that time.

Frank excellent job on the pics. Were heading out to LT today from Cabrera, love that new toll highway, the views are incredable. Have you ever checked out the cave? Hoping to do it on a bike one day
