I had one of these pushed on me by the local electric company.

I heard they were bad but it seems they are very bad.

In the US these are used extensively by power companies to get accurate monthly readings and eliminate the need for a physical inspection. I have not heard of these being used in any number in the DR. I have not seen any studies on the radiation topic in regards to these units. I have heard that cell phones may create similar problems. I think the jury is still out on this. The only unusual experience I have had with these units in the DR is that when I got my electric invoice I began to cry like a baby. I really don't think it had anything to do with radiation emissions.
