Santo Domingo hotels: Distance

I will in Santo Domingo, and I have two choices: Occidental Embajador or Melia SAnto Domingo.
Which is better situated? I mean, near Zona Colonial, shopping center and night life (I suppose Malecon).
Which of the them would you choose?

melia santo domingo is directly in the malecon, next to hotel jaragua, and 5 mins (by car) to zona colonia.
Embajador is far away from the zona colonial, but it is very close to the best restaurants, shopping centers, bars, etc.
both are very good hotels.
