Is there such a thing as a hardware store or huge store that sells construction tools and material (imported and local tiles, wallpaper, plywood, etc) anywhere in Punta Cana - Bavaro area? Will I have to go to Santo Domingo?

There are many hardware stores in Veron. Ferreteria Detallista, Ferreteria del Este, Ferreteria Imagin, and others scattered in the area.
Ferrieteria Americana is located near the Friusa crossroads.
There are some tile vendors in Veron and Higuey along the road to Higuey. However, selection of tiles are limited and costs are higher than Santo Domingo.
Wallpaper is limited and hardly used, don't know of any vendor. The high humidy of the tropics is the bane of the product. What people have used is wall stencils to provide a wallpaper effect. Wall stencils can be purchased at Amazon.com
