I've gotten prices by taxi for 2000 pesos from Santiago to dorado. quick and easy but the most expensive option.

By far the best method of intercity travelling is the bus. Either Caribe or Metro. Comfort and safety.

2000 pesos, no way. It will cost him twice that in gas. I would say minimum of $150-200usds.

gas for a typical corolla/4 cyl camry from Santiago to Playa Dorado is 1400 pesos max. 2500 pesos fare is doable and can be negotiated on a slow day at the STI airport. More probable... and available by asking on any give day is a fare of 3500 pesos

As for the bus... factor in an additional 800 plus 300 pesos above the 120 pesos fare for the two taxi fares, unless you are not storing luggage beneath in the locked storage compartment in which case minus the 300 as you can ask the Caribe Tours driver to drop you off at the entrance of playa dorado.

It's not $200 USD son, ask Bachata who used to be a chofer.

If you can do it for rd2000 which is less than $50usds than you have a real bargain. I doubt that is the case. As an example, from Las Terrenas to Santo Domingo is $180usds one way so do the math. I doubt you would be able to get a taxi for under $80-100usds for one way. By the way it is spelled chauffeur.

Show me where I said the rate was $RD2,000?
I stated it was less than $200 USD.
Chofer is the proper spelling in Spanish genius.
Stick to LT, you obviously know nothing about Santiago or the North Coast.
I'll post the airport rate in a few minutes, It is probably $100 USD from STI to Playa Dorado, an educated guess.

But how does he get to la Rontonda? How does he even know how to pronounce it for a cab driver?

From santiago city center take a carro publico ( or 2 depending where ure are ) for 15 pesos each. Cant remember what letter but shouldnt be too hard to find out..... something like " tu va a la rotonda? " should just about do it.......

Tourist taxis charge $100 for the trip. A local cab would do a better deal. If you take Metro or Caribe you still have to get from the respective bus station to Playa Dorada.
Make a deal with a local taxi and be done with it.

But escaping form the airport is difficult. The cabbie at 3:00 AM said the minimum was $20.00 USD, but i refused and he came down to 600 pesos to take me to the nearest Caban~a.

@ Derfish - Don't let Steve LT see you do that!
? = Alt + 0241

@ N.N'ts - Taxi Sosua Cabarete charges $100 USD in either direction STI - Playa Dorado

not on my keyboard it doesn't. I've tried a dozen different suggestions and none are valid with my machine.

Try ALT 1,6,4, or cut and paste caba?a, son, it's not like you are typing ano without e?e!

Rafael Silva charges $200 ROUND TRIP per vehicle up to four people, and his rates are on the "high end".

Transfer: R/T: Airport to Hotel to Airport - Santiago Cibao (STI) - Puerto Plata

The island does not revolve around LT you know!

Yes Tambo, this would be the best, comfortable and safest way... Mr. Rafael Silva had been in the tourist transportation business in DR for years, I worked for him my self "Sub-contracted driver" from STI to the North Shores of DR when I started in business in 2004...
