From today's Sosua News:

Saturday evening, July 19 from 7 PM an open-air movie night starts in the, for traffic closed, main street Pedro Clisante. The film to be presented is Rio 2, an animated film for all ages. The family film will be shown with the aim to promote Sos?a as a family holiday resort. Attending the film is free.

If this family friendly holiday resort nonsense goes on much longer I am moving. With all the families rushing in the home sale should go fast. I am near the end of my rope with culture, art, and now free family movies on Pedro Clisante. Whats next The Sosua Philaharmonic Orchestra?

Add a bit of culture i.e. Dominican bands playing live music and family activities and it gets slammed, unbelievable!

Sosua has been trying to close the Chica Bar end to PC.

Now they want to close the Family Bar end of PC.

How do you do this... on a Saturday night, take over the Street and show a kids cartoon.

Who would let the kids go there, after dark, by themselves. The adult who accompany them will not be drinking and likely not eating (except popcorn). When the movie is over, it will be time to take the kids home.

If you are a Bar, do you want to lose the Saturday night revenue?

Would you like to go for a good time and a few drinks, on a Saturday night, sitting at stones through from a bunch of kids (with Parents giving you the “Stink-Eye”).

My suggestion to the Mayor is.... make the Movie night every Saturday, BUT move it to the Banco Popular parking lot, not in the middle of Bars and Restaurants. Your not helping!

Last time I was there I watched the adults with the kids and they were all drinking! How else can you deal with running around screaming kids?!?!?! It does seem like a good idea for people who have kids to just hang out with the adults and have a few drinks while there kids can have fun. I just don't see it as a huge tourism thing!

I think showing porn might have been a better idea.

I just don't get Sosua as a family place when there are SO MANY better alternatives in the world.

Say Sosua did not have one any ladies of the evening in it. Say Sosua did not have this reputation for containing such ladies.

Now, say I am sitting in Canada and I am trying to decide where to take my family on vacation. Sosua would be soooo far down on my list, I would never get to even considering vacationing here. It takes a family with a different mindset, a bit out of the norm to enjoy this town. Not too many of these families around.

I love Sosua, I really do but we all must admit....on the grand scale of destinations, this place is high on the list of $**t holes.

Improving the infrastructure alone is a monumental challenge in itself. It is years and years away from being acceptable to a standard family.

I love my $**t hole town, I love my Sosewer.

Why are you all assuming this is to attract family tourists? There are hundreds of families living in and around Sosua, can't it just be for them?

The problem is that the Sosua News mentioned it was to help promote family tourism. Ignoring, of course, that there are already 100s of families with children in the area.

It is obvious that efforts are being made to make Sosua more family friendly, even if only for the benefit of the families already here.

Have you ever heard the expression “spend like a drunken sailor”?
That's what makes money for the Bar/ Restaurants.

Have you ever heard the expression “spend family time together”?
That is not the kind of “spend” that makes money for the Bar/ Restaurants.

Movie at Banco Pop and they get to eat what? Popcorn? You are way over-thinking this. You think they won't eat and drink on Saturday nite? They're not shutting down the bars and restaurants for a movie anymore then they are for a street dance. People can still eat and drink in any bar they want to. And anyways, showing a family movie on PC is not about economics. It's about the change.
