Hotel Los Jardines is the place behind the Gran Almirante...nice place but rooms are small, well below $90 and you can walk to several great restaurants and bars. I haven't stayed there in a while, but they did have decent wifi and a good breakfast when I was there, wifi didn't reach all the rooms though...could be better now. The other Hodelpas are way over $90.

If you want to stay downtown near the Holdepa Centro Plaza, Aloha Sol is a less expensive option.

Platino IMO is the best value in Santiago. $50/nt, WIFI, Free American Breakfast (thats actually good), and secure parking.

It's across the street from PriceSmart. Definitely better than Hodelpa Centro Plaza, which is in an area where you wouldn't want to walk at night.

Hotel Matum doesn't have wifi in the rooms. You have to go to the lobby. Also, it can be loud, because there is a casino and nightclub in the hotel.

Hotel Platino is far from being across Pricesmart, Imao so don't expect to just walk across and visit the pricesmart, because is going to be a long walk. That being said, Is more or less across from PUCMM. Being a Santiago resident, I've never had the chance to stay in any of the hotels in Santiago, but from what I've heard Platino is one of the best, though many have forgotten to mention that just like Gran Almirante, Matum etc it also has a casino attach to it. The Gran Almirante and the other Hodelpa are also soposedly very good, ah and Aloha Sol in the historic center. I would stay in Camp David for the view and the pleasant mountain climate, but is kind of away from the center of city, and it doesn't sound like it would fit what you're looking for.

Hotel Los Jardines

Last time i stayed there a neighbor a street over was blasting show tunes from a 2nd floor balcony right around siesta time. There must be some Dominicanized gringos around there.

Agree that the rooms are way to small but they have central air and good breakfast included for your 50 bucks.
