This is a controversial topic.... usually a misinformed one - IMO

I have religiously maintained that tourist areas are to be avoided... for a variety of reasons...
Scams, poor service... a long list
Those of us that live outside those areas feel quite a bit differently about life in this country.

I had one today.... an exemplar one

My misfortune was backing into a palm tree with my snazzy car....Isuzu MUX

I broke the rear hatch window & the wiper, bent the flashy chrome thing, put a HUGE dent in my rear hatch.
Self flagellation is a specialty of mine...I can kick myself around the block better than anybody else can.
So be quiet about my stupidity

Really bad timing... wife here - so no extra car for me
Dentist appointment 10:30am Monday in Sosua...
No time to spare.

I deposited my problem at the feet of Pablo el Mecanico in Nagua.... my Go-To car fixer

I called Friday at 4pm.... the rear glass MUST be an issue - I worried

He called back in 10 minutes....
bring it to me early manana a la manana....
I have the glass.

8:20am... I drop it off....
Fin del dia... he promises.

I show up at 4-4:30pm or so and they're working like beavers on it.
Glass is installed...
Every single wrinkle in the metal was smooth.
The boy was wet sanding the creases....preparing for paint

Obviously - no paint allowed for in this time frame.... but it will be ready when we do it

They are perfectionists....
rather than speed them up... I said I would come back tomorrow (Sunday) to get the car

Yup - come at 12... he says

Is that service ??? Capital 'S'
One day service... Sunday delivery... miraculous!!!!

Where in the world would you ever see that... get that... treatment.?????

La Rep Dom... that's where !!!!!

It confirms my faith in the country..
set yourself up a good network... be fair... and you'll get treated fairly.

Wait until the bill comes..... it will not be a killer..

Those who don't experience this type of treatment.... I apologize if you're offended by my glee.

This country has its advantages... and disadvantages (yes)...

For me ... the +'s outweigh the -'s....

Pablo el Mecanico was soooo proud of himself for delivering this....
Yes... they take pride in their work, their reputation, their abilities, their life...

Give them a chance.

A real Feel Good thread....for me

Dominicans can be good problem solvers and many of them are "McGiver" types in fixing mechanical issues. Great story. Thanks.

Exactly. In every trade. The point is, as pointed out many times in this forum, you have to filter out the bad apples and make your own network of professionals. Fancy working environment or high pricing is not necessarly a guarantee of anything. It's the professional him/herself and his/her mindset that matters. Willing to provide a professional service and not rip off? There are so many of good people in this country, but not all of them greet you at the airport when you arrive "ma frien"...

This is one reason I like reading and contributing (where I can) on this forum, as references mean usually a lot...

What about the chrome trim ? And where is the Pablo in Nagua ?
I would flagellate you but I did the same think with an electrical pole in Puerto Rico - quite embarrassing.

But doesn't that MUX have a backup camera with warning beep ?

Not painted yet but functional

Yes back up.. but sun directly on the screen and very dangerous on the left side.
I missed the rear vision - no , no beeping on my system

Pablo is at the Former ISLA station.... just go up the road opposite the bomba and he id 20-30 yds
You can't miss him
