The telecommunications company Viva conducted the first test of the fifth generation network (5G) in the Dominican Republic. The demonstration was carried out with Ericsson, a Swedish company that is a world leader in the development of mobile network infrastructures.
The event, led by the Dominican President, Danilo Medina, and the president of the Media Group Telemicro, Juan Ramón Gómez Díaz, is part of Viva's commitment to the development of telecommunications at the local level, they reported.
The executive president of Viva, Marcos Herrera, clarified that the activity is not to leave the technology in operation, but to make the first live test of this network.
Herrera said that this step gives them the leadership in the implementation of the highest technology. "A transcendental milestone that puts us at the technological forefront, not with announcements or empty promises, but with a real and tangible proof that the future of telecommunications is already here."
For his part, Elie Hanna, regional president of Ericsson, said that this technological leap will open opportunities that it is not yet possible to fully dimension. "Customers will be able to access new applications such as augmented reality and 4K transmission, and industries will benefit from innovative applications of the 'Internet of Things', intelligent transport and remote medical assistance, which creates great opportunities."
During the event, Medina and Gómez Díaz made an exhibition tour, where they had the opportunity to observe the 5G capacities at record speed of up to 26 mbps, this being the highest technology used so far in the country.
