Hipólito Mejía this weekend show his property outside San Cristóbal. For people that don't know, he was the president in the term 2000 - 2004 under the PRD party (today's PRM despite the PRD still exists). He has been in the Dominican government for many years before that, but originally he is from Gurabo, then a small rural area north of Santiago and today a suburban part of the city. He had a modest childhood running around barefoot, having to walk and bicycle to and from school, and a father that wasn't a good role model often claiming that some parents don't treat their children right, remembering what he went through. He did some studies at a university in North Carolina, United States paid for by the Dominican government which sent him there to become an expert on tobacco farming. He later applied that in various places in the DR.

Despite the original modest wooden home of the family still stands in Gurabo, he hardly has any family there. All went to other areas of the DR and abroad, while he has homes in several areas of the DR, the most famous perhaps is in the Jarabacoa Valley. In this video off the presses he show his country home outside San Cristóbal, in the southern region of the DR and not a far drive from Santo Domingo. He also owns a home in Santo Domingo that he doesn't uses much. First he gives a tour of his property, touching on some aspects of Dominican politics and his family (and his) personality; then he gives a more in depth interview that takes most of the video.

Great to see how well he is doing after nearly destroying the country. Sweet life he has.

His house in Jarabacoa is massive, and on around 10 acres of prime land.

Robert, is his Jarabacoa home just north of where we had planned to move?

Yup. A massive structure in the middle of a huge plot of cleared land.
