US Consulate in Puerto Plata if you have no luck with local lawyers.

Are you sure you don't need it apostillized?

I don't think so. I was told just need a copy of my passport notarized to send to a bank in the states to collect some money in a US checking account which belonged to a recently deceased relative.

I live/ work here in Santiago and would like to have it done here rather than SDomingo.

Is your passport a US or DR passport?

I am not sure if a DR notary will carry any weight regarding a bank account in the US. Did you check with the bank if that will actually work? If you need a legal document that is from the DR, then almost always such documents need an Apostille. Good luck.

The Canadian Embassy does that service for Canadians, does the US consulate or Embassy not do the same for Americans?
