I hear finding a street map of Santo Domingo is difficult.. any advise on where to purchase one?

La Sirena

I bought a pretty nice map in S.D. (@La Sirena on MultiCentro Churchill/Ricart) for $5 roughly.

It has a (very) detailed street map on one side and nice layout of the entire country on the other.

Go to the books/magazine section and you can't miss it. In Espanol and English.

I have found them at Carrefour here in SD. Also, at least concerning SD city streets, I have found them to be surprisingly accurate.

Street Map

The one I was referring to is also available at Hotel Jaragua - on the Malecon.

It's located in the news shop (that's what I call it, don't know of the exact name) which is located towards the back, as if you were heading to the rear parking lot.

If it's there, than you can probably get it almost anywhere. I gave it a closer look tonight and it seems to have been produced very recently.
