Viva is to buy all the common stock of AeroContinente Dominicana for US$1.2 million in cash. The deal must be closed on or before 30APR03. This gives Viva its Dominican Air Carrier Certificate and one Boeing 737-200. Two more 737-200s are to be purchased and delivered during the month of March. There are plans to fly from Santiago to New York (JFK), Miami, Georgetown (Guyana), Cancun and Lima (Peru).
Additionally, the airline is maintaining its efforts to acquire Queen Air and Air Santo Domingo.

Do you know that Aerocontinente Peru was grounded in 1997? They had serious problems.

I don't understand one thing. They have only 3 767s now in N6:
OB 1758
OB 1765 -former CC-CJR
OB 1766 -former CC-CJP

9D has the following registered assets:

CC-CJR / B767-2Q8 ER - current OB1765
OB1766 / B767-219 ER - former CC-CJP
HI-764CA /B737-222

What a mess, everything is mixed up!

Aerocontinente Dominicana has the only one owned asset which is

HI-764CA, formerly known as N6's OB-1755, c/n 19955

767s were planned for joint use by N6/9D and were never registered in 9D, in according to my system response the project was cancelled and these plans stayed in Peru.

So here's the question- what the heck is Viva going to do with HI registered aircraft? Are they going to register the two 737s their acquiring with Falcon Air or some other US carrier to operate them to the US?

This has got to be the 5th time Viva has changed their strategy -- they've gone from 747s, 727s from Falcon Air, they're all over the map.

Plus, what are the benefits of acquiring two Dominican carriers -- Aerocontinente and Queen Air? Taking a competitor out of the market? Seems like an expensive move and might end up sucking up more of management's time than it will add to the bottom line.
