There are more than 40 projects to be constructed in the Province

Tourist investors have their eyes on Samana, a pole known this year as the main attractiveness of the Dominican Republic, since it has in his land extension, not only the greater number of projects of this sector, but many of the greater constructions in terms of investment.

The province located in the Eastern zone of the country will be the place for a marine, an international airport, several hotels, villas, house projects, as well as buildings of service establishments for the car rental, sale of liquid gas of petroleum and bank branches.

The upturn of Samana Bay and its surroundings is clearly shown in the tourist project report from the Secretariat of Tourism that has data of the pending works to be constructed in different tourist poles of the country.

The cost of the approved projects by tourism, 215 in total, it?s supposed to men an investment of about one thousand 141 million 370 thousand dollars.

From October 24, 2001 until October 24, 2002, the Secretariat of Tourism evaluated 224 projects, from which 177 are definite, 25 have a conditioned approval, and 13 are expecting documents and 9 were rejected.

Even though in the document. Saman? is shown as the most requested zone by investors, since it has 42 projects in portfolio, Puerto Plata with 26, Higuey with 22, Boca Chica with 12, San Pedro de Macor?s with 10 and B?varo with 9 are also introduced as wanted spaces for the construction of different tourist infrastructure.

Among the constructions are: apartment, hotels, housing projects, restaurants, beach resorts, port for cruise ships, casinos, golf courses, medical centers, malls, motels and tourist resorts.

It is located two hundred forty-five kilometers from Santo Domingo; Samana is visited yearly by thousands of tourist who go there to watch the hunchbacked whales. These mammals come from Greenland, Norway, Canada and the United States in groups of five thousand specimens looking for the warm tropical waters.

Authorities have calculated in more than 60 million pesos the resources produced by hunchbacked wholes watching in Samana.

But if the Bay is attractive for whales, imagine the interest is even higher for men. The construction of mega-projects, the Front Marine of the Bay of Samana, which is developed at a cost of one thousand 645 million pesos, will have a capacity for 250 small ships, a nautic club and a mall, with which they pretend to attract tourists with high purchasing power. According to calculations made by the authorities, in front of the bay pass every year 10 thousand boats of small draft.

In 1870 Saman? was already an attractive apple for many foreigners, among them the former President of the United States General Ulises S. Grant, who advised the American Union on the necessity of annexing the bay to its territory, convinced that it could become in a Free Port of Economic Trade of great importance of the European nations.

Despite the opposition made by the Republic in Senator, Representative of the State of Massachusetts Charles Summer, to the annexing desires of Grant, after accusing him of using North American Military Forces to keep Buenaventura Baez governing the Dominican Republic, where weren?t few the desires tendency to obtain the annexation.

The North American mandatory, perhaps exhausted by the poverty of the fight settled, didn?t insist on his annexing attempts at last.
