Comedy/Satire

It's a comedy / satire about a Dominican's dream to go to NY and then once there, wanting to go back home.

Almost every dominican I know has seen this movie at least 5 times.

I have some money in my account at work to buy cultural items for my students.

Anyone seen this film and can review for me?

Try this Barnes and Noble website, it gives a review of the movie and you are able to purchase ($9.99) a video in Spanish with English subtitles. Regards, PJT

I saw the movie some years back and remember it was a "hoot" with a message. Refreshing to view a movie without having a Hollywood spin associated with it.

It's worth adding to any cultural library about the DR because it synopsizes in a humorous fashion the living paradox of almost every Dominican:

Those in the DR want to be in Nueba Yol. Those in Nueba Yol want to be in the DR.

To quote the famous merengue: "Estoy aqui, pero mi mente esta alla"

If you see the movie, notice how the fashions change as the movie progresses. This is because the producer kept on running out of money, and the movie took years to make.
