It might have been about the DR but not made IN the DR, for obvious reasons, I'd think.

A little personal note on the movie business here:
My father was involved in the industri about 30 years agos and produced films in Spain and Italy, he then married and decided to visit the DR when he took a liking to it and decided to produce a project called Noa Noa way back then. During those days he met De Laurentis in Italy while working on a Spagetti Western and helped set things up for him to come here and shoot the Godfather. My father told me that at the time, the island hand really good potential to become an important location for hollywood studios. Even Charles Bludhorn who had in mind setting something up here with Gulf&Western owned Paramount Studios. His company owned among many things, the Miss Universe Pageant, and this is also why it was celebrated here in 1977.

Apparently all the movie studio plans went up in smoke (which is one of my all time favs)

i am a big fan of horror films and Porno Holocaust and Zombie are great examples of DR on film..

Porno Holocaust's opening credits feature a run through some of la capital's poorest neighborhoods...

Not a movie, but the latest in a very successful english comedy series - Auf Wiedersehen, Pet - was recently filmed in Santo Domingo. It's about a bunch of british builders who are hired to rebuild the British Embassy in Havana and it was originally scheduled to be filmed in Cuba, but due to the Iraq war, plans were changed and it was filmed in DR instead. Santo Domingo was chosen because of the similarity in archtecture with Havana. Haven't seen it yet, the first episode in on tomorrow night over here.
